Not exactly sure but think the reason is by New York State law to own/run a higher educational facility one must have previous experience doing same.
When SVCMC went into bankruptcy in 2003, they spun off/shut down many hospitals and programs, including several hospitals in Queens and the Saint Vincent's School of Nursing in that brough. It was purchased by the new owner's and renamed "St. Paul's.
As for Saint Vincent's Richmond (Staten Island), the only body interested in purchasing the hospital (Bayonne Medical Center), did not have the required experience in running a nursing program, at least not in NYS, and not even sure if they wanted the school anyway, so it was sold off, again to the only persons interested, and renamed "St. Paul's".
Really interesting that the new owner's of both schools chose "Saint Paul's", which is as close to "St. Vincent's" as they could possibly legally get. Full name of the saint in question is "Saint Vincent de Paul"
Should also point out that the only nursing program left in the NYC area with a direct connection to the Sisters of Charity is the one at College of Mount Saint Vincent.
The Sisters of Charity via their St. Vinny's schools of nursing had a rich and substantial nursing education system that pioneered many firsts in the education of nurses. Indeed many things started at St. Vinny's have been copied and or were used in schools of nursing across the USA, and are still in use.
Now that all three schools are history, (Manhattan, Richmond, Queens), it really is a shame. There simply will never be (IMHO) anything like a "Saint Vincent's" nurse in this area again, well aside from those coming out of CofMSV.
Hallmark of their tradition was theaching of compassionate care with a nursing education that gave individual attention to each student.

Hi everyone,
i applied to st. pauls in queens campus for the fall semester and took the hesi exam in june and took a one part retake in mid july and now its august and still haven't got any answers from the school. i call them they keep ignoring my questions and keep transfering me to a voice mail. i have left numerous voice messages and still no reply. my question is how long does it usually take for them to reply back with an answer? From what i know thier program starts Aug 30th.... im feeling very aggrevated and frustrated with them and after everything i have been through i feel like this school is bogges.
i would love to read ur insights on this.... thx
