St Joseph's College of Maine FNP program students

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

I wanted to start this thread for all of the new (and current) students at Saint Joseph's College of Maine FNP program.

Any info, news, updates or questions/concerns could be asked here for all the new and current students.

Any advice that the current students can give us new students would be greatly appreciated :)

For example...

1. How many books are required for NU 501?

2. Has setting up clinicals been difficult?

3. Have the current students had any trouble communicating with your advisors? Do they get back to you promptly?

4. Overall, how has the experience been? Are you glad you are in this program?

Thanks so much!

Any one currently doing NP 612 or NP 613 or done with those classes. Please reply

thanks pjacob. The instructor hadn't advised me to bring those things....I emailed her and she said to bring them!

Where did you guys get the physical assessment kit?? I am already done the class but have never heard of the assessment kit?

I saw some 'kits' online, but were very $$ so I just ordered an otoscope, tuning fork and percussion hammer through Amazon and it was relatively inexpensive, and I'll just take my own stethescope. RN-In Maine do you have any tips for the class? Thx

No tips if you are doing in on campus. But I heard from another student I work with that it was great having the class on campus. They really work with all the students. Good atmosphere.

RN In Maine , Can I ask you questions about NP 613. Its killing me. My email id is [email protected]. Please Please help me

What textbooks are required for NP 612/613? I can't seem to find that listed anywhere. Thanks

Morglan - I found the bookstore at ED MAP Store Front. I hope that helps.

So am I to assume you are beginning NP612/613 soon? How did NP601 go for you in regards to the Typhon system, the administrative process of setting up the clinical rotation, etc. Any insight you can give would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to start NP 601 at the end of this month - if I can get the contract signed . . .

Greetings RN in Maine. You stated you completed the NP601 course? Was it not through SJCM? Did you not have to do the phy assessment videos? I guess I'm a little nervous about the clinical class too. I work 40-50 hours teaching at an ADN ground school. What will be required in regards to written assignments. Please help? I can be reached at [email protected]. Whatever help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings all,

If you are in need of NP preceptors, there is a national data base of NPs of various clinical specialities that have 'stepped up' to precept NP students. Visit http://www.enpnetwotk.com to locate preceptors near you. Of course, once we all get certified and licensed, we need to 'give back'. There is no SANE reason why any of us should be struggling to locate willing, eager, and knowledgable preceptors!!

Hey pjacob. You mentioned a video? Was that an assignment within NP601? Tell us more about it. I'm hoping to get started at the end of the month. Thanks for whatever info you can share - [email protected].

Thanks for the book advice. NP 601 on campus was well worth the trip, I would highly recommend to anyone if it lines up with the scope and sequence of classes. Still getting the last few clinical requirements ironed out and haven't logged on to Typhon yet. Hoping to sign up for 612/613 August 31. :)
