St Joseph's College of Maine FNP program students

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

I wanted to start this thread for all of the new (and current) students at Saint Joseph's College of Maine FNP program.

Any info, news, updates or questions/concerns could be asked here for all the new and current students.

Any advice that the current students can give us new students would be greatly appreciated :)

For example...

1. How many books are required for NU 501?

2. Has setting up clinicals been difficult?

3. Have the current students had any trouble communicating with your advisors? Do they get back to you promptly?

4. Overall, how has the experience been? Are you glad you are in this program?

Thanks so much!

Hello everyone can anyone give me any insight on NP 602 Pharm? Are there quizzes, Is a lot of writing papers, is it challenging like patho? How are the instructors? Is it possible to complete in 6-8 weeks? Do they grade extra tough because as hard as I worked hard in patho my instructor would not give me anything higher than a B, challenging I tell you. Who would anyone recommended initials only. Thanks

Hi morglan

How is it going in NP 602 PHARM. I emailed you yesterday

Hi norik95

Did you start NP 602 Pharm? I will be starting end of this month

Hi Debs17, I am finishing up NP602. It is not as difficult as patho, but still a lot of busy work!

Anyone who has taken the summer session of NP601 Assessment - what is the dress code (for a man)? Just casual or scrubs when assessing the volunteer patients? Any input or advice?

Thanks

Hi morglan

I sent you an email but we all have been busy. Its great your about done with NP602, are you in the summer health assessment course, I wish in the course I rather get it over in 2 weeks.

How is the online health assessment course? How many clinical hours do we need? Is it difficult like patho? I really wanted to do the on campus for 2 weeks but I am not ready for the july start date.

Can anyone email about pharm and what I should prepare for and health assessment. [email protected]

Debs17,

You need a total of 45 clinical hours. The online assessment course is ok, again I think I would have learned a lot more from the on campus opportunity. However, I know that is not an option for you either. The challenging part with the assessment class is that my preceptor on day three had me go into the room and start taking HPIs and assessing the patient. The whole point of the class I thought was to be taught how to correctly perform particular assessments. When I asked my instructor she said "no, that's a good way to learn" Now that I am past the class I do not agree..I think it should have been more of a team work situation. That's my advice. The assignments are not too bad, however can be challenging because on week 2 lets say you have an assignment to use a patient with a musculoskeletal complaint...well if you see one during that week of clinical time it can be challenging. My advice is to look through the assignments and keep your eyes open for particular patients you can use for your write ups.

Thanks RN in Maine

Thanks for the breakdown on health assessment so I can be prepared.

How long did it take you to complete Advanced Pharm? Can it be done in 6-8 weeks? Also how long did it take you to complete Health Assessment? I have heard it takes most people the entire 15 weeks. I currently enrolled in Advanced Pharm with T.S. and I hope she is good and grades fair? fingers cross.

HI Debs17, I emailed you back a few days ago, but if you didn't get it: I'm finishing up my last Unit in Pharm. I'm not sure if all instructors have the same syllabus but each unit has 3 lessons: readings, 1 timed quiz (which is pretty tough!), and a critical thinking type of essay with a patient scenario for each lesson. Some lessons have discussion boards but only about 3 so that's good. There's an annotated bibliography to do at the end along with a video assignment that's not too bad. I have actually really enjoyed this class! A lot better than my experience with patho, that's for sure. It can be done in 6-8 weeks if you really get to work. A lot of writing, as usual. Good luck.

HELLO , i JUST FINISHED advanced patho and that was the most difficult class so far for me in the program as of yet . I am starting to look for preceptors for clinicals and a have hard time finding any. For the assessment course do we have to find a family practice /community clinic or it can be done in the Internal medicine/adult office?? do you have all preceptors lines up in one place or different? there is a theory part and clinical practicum part so its considered two diff classes so we have to pay/register for both at the same time? thank you
