I wanted to start this thread for all of the new (and current) students at Saint Joseph's College of Maine FNP program.
Any info, news, updates or questions/concerns could be asked here for all the new and current students.
Any advice that the current students can give us new students would be greatly appreciated :)
For example...
1. How many books are required for NU 501?
2. Has setting up clinicals been difficult?
3. Have the current students had any trouble communicating with your advisors? Do they get back to you promptly?
4. Overall, how has the experience been? Are you glad you are in this program?
Thanks so much!

Thanks, I emailed the librarian a few days ago without response. I've never had issues until now. I even upgraded my internet today to see if it would help them load. When I say slow, I mean... I can cook dinner before it loads. I've tried different browsers... nothing seems to help.
Thanks for your help, I'll give them a call tomorrow.
I posted this elsewhere and then found this thread...
I'm applying to St. Joe's, and was wondering if anyone could give a little guidance on the essay. The requirement seems a bit...well...vague to me. Is it deliberately leaving the choice open, or am I missing the focus they are looking for?
Are those of you who are in the program generally happy with it so far? I was in the distance program from U of Alabama-Birmingham and took one class--Advanced Patho. I got an "A" in the class, but was incredibly disappointed in the program. I felt like it was "factory learning." They wouldn't even let you review incorrect answers to your exams...citing "test item security" as the justification. If you know anyone looking into that program. I'd advise them to stear clear.
Glad I found this thread. I hope I get accepted and can get back to work on my courses!
Oh...and I'm from the Lebanon, NH area.
Yep...that's the one. I had heard good things about the program, but EVERY single interaction I had with the program, from their admissions process to the feedback on your performance, was unsatisfactory. There are also quite a few what I call "sneaky fees" that tend to run up the cost fairly quickly.

I'm finishing up Nursing Informatics as we speak. I'm building a website, which has been strangely addicting, but I think I may be going overboard. There were other options, like writing a 15 pages business proposal or hour long powerpoint presentation, but I wanted a break from papers! For NI, I used the two textbooks sparingly (for throwing in a few citations here and there) but I did use them. I bought them from VitalSource and Coursesmart- they're ebooks and I think I paid $50 total for both of them combined.
As for SJCME's program, I am enjoying it... but I'm a little frustrated that it's taking so long to get to the "good stuff." Other students that I work with in different programs are already getting into patho, pharm, etc. I still have three classes before I can even feel remotely like an FNP student. But I'm getting there! I'm just glad to have some classes behind me now.
It's a LOT of paper writing... that's for sure!! Hope to see some of you in my classes :)
