St Cloud area

Published

I am a student nurse preparing to graduate in June then move to MN. My husband was born and raised there then the Navy brought him to Calif where he was lucky enough to meet me. LOL Anyhow- I have visited several times (all winter visits but one) and LOVE it! I truly cannot wait to move and begin a new life and have a family friendly place to live to raise our daughter. I have read the posts on taxes, crime etc and believe me Calif is no place to live or raise a child these days. 10 years ago I would have done it but not now. Things just keep getting worse.

So, I would love to hear anything you have to share about the St Cloud area, particularly St Cloud hospital. I put my app in last week there cuz I don't know many other hospitals in the area. I don't want to drive far in the winter and want a good education system for my daughter.

Well, thanks for any responses- I look forward to reading and sharing more.

Hi junegrad06,

Good Luck with your future graduation and moving to MN. I'm not that familiar with the St. Cloud area, but I just ran a report for you that list hospitals within a 50 mi radius from St. Cloud. I hope you find it helpful. It's in Adobe PDF file format.

Hope that helps. Thanks

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the information you included. It is hard to select a hospital being so far away. I am hoping to get back there at least once to tour some facilities before making a final decision.

Thanks again.

Hi there JuneGrad06!

Glad to hear you are going to be a 'neighbor'

I actually live about 15 mi from St. Cloud and have done my clinics at the St. Cloud hospital (I'm in my 2nd semster of m ADN, I graduate May '07) I applied for an internship at the St. Cloud hospital for this summer. Ok back to the topic at hand, I really like the hospital. It is large enough to have all the same specialty and general areas that the metro hospitals have with the exception of a burn unit. The wages and benefits are very close to that of the metro hospitals also (at least from what I have been able to find out). Their philosphy statement bases treatment on the way that Christ treated people (they are a Catholic hospital but are nondemoniational with the staff and patients, I by the way am not catholic and felt very comfortable) Anyway, they are technologically up there as they do computer charting, etc. The nurses were very helpful to us students.

Ok, that's all I can think of for now, but if you have any more questions about the hospital or the area in general, I'll try answer them the best I can.

Good luck with everything!

ok, sorry about all the typo's in that post LOL I tried to edit it but wasn't able to. I was trying to type it out quickly while fighting off my 3 yr. old who was trying to 'help' me type!

I have been to one hospital that did computer charting but they also did paper charting that seemed to be double the work. What was your feel on the computer charting at St Cloud?

May I ask you what city you live in? I am interested in Sartell from what I have researched. It looks very nice and seems like good schools. Any other town info you could share would be great!

Thanks so much

ps- good luck to you in your studies. It sure is hard but we can do it!

Sanskeet-

I forgot to mention. I hope you get the internship. We had what they call here and "externship" where we work one day as an RN with an RN and one day as a CNA. It was an awesome learning experience because you quickly find the difference of school clinicals vs the "real world". VERY different! Anyways, I did it for about 9 mos then had to quit cuz school needed more of me than I expected. I miss it though.

JuneGrad06,

Actually I have heard good things about the Sartell school system. I live by Annandale. It's a nice size town. My oldest is a freshman and they have about 150 students in her grade. We live in the country about 10 miles from there.

I like St. Cloud. They have alot of the things the Twin Cities have, an amateur baseball team, good stores, the university is good, they have a Barne's and Noble, quite a few little coffee shops, a theater, a nice movie plex, so a lot of nice things all in all. And it is only about an hour drive to the Twin Cities.

I have also heard good things about the Sartel school system and the high school sports program.

St. Cloud hosp is the place we send all of our cardiac patients in need of angiograms, angioplasties, etc. They have an excellent reputation in west-central MN. They are easy to communicate with hospital to hospital, and very patient friendly.

Good luck to you!

I used to live not too far from the St. Cloud area and I definitely love it! It is very ideal for raising kids and the town has a lot to offer. You should go disk-golfing, boating/swimming on the lakes, and especially don't forget the fourth of July parade in Annandale, it is a lot of fun.

Foley is also a nice town.

My sister lives near St Joseph. She loves the area. I don't think that you can really go wrong living in any of the towns near St Cloud.

I just want to say that I got hired at the St. Cloud hospital on the Med 2 unit and I am EXCITED to start working (but don't expect to see me until around Sept. 2006)... I got hired into the new graduate program, which I feel is SO comforting to new grads like me who are just absolutely SCARED of the real nursing world! So cheers to all of us St. Cloud nurses!
