St Barnabas Hospital (bronx ny)

U.S.A. New York

Hello everyone. I have been an ER nurse for the past 7 years and soon I will be interviewing for an ER position at St Barnabas in the Bronx. Do any of you work there? If so, can you shed some light re: the ER, staff, patient population, management, and overall environment? How is the pharm exam? Starting salary for experienced RNs? Benefits? Thanks in advance....

Good news got the job start tomorrow...yay

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

Does St. Barnabas hire experienced med-surg / tele nurses into the ER without ER experience?

Paco u can try and see what happens. However I have noticed that hospitals want RNs with experience in the specific department so if u didn't get lucky and get the department u wanted as a new grad it's closed doors from then forward :( I noticed specialties prefer to hire a new grad than an RN with experience in another department but have nothing to lose in trying ...app online and try to find the managers email and see how it goes.

Thanks Estrella, I know I've mentioned this problem in other posts and you have agreed with me. I'm actually going to start travel nursing soon. It will be in my most recent specialty as I stated above but I'm hoping to get into ER after that a few years from now. I refuse to accept that I will be stuck in med surg / tele forever so I'm just going to have to keep trying until I get in somewhere, even if that means looking outside NYC. A bit of networking won't hurt either ?

Yes Paco, I feel like new grad all over again though i have experience. I mean we have hospital experience and the skills are transferrable to all departments...IVs, blood draws, assessments, monitors, meds, wound care, etc. But if your resume does not say RN in X department your app gets rejected. Meh. So much for nurses being sought after. But then its all for a reason, the right place will accept us. I like my current hospital however its so hard to transfer between departments esp to those with 12hr shift, they pref to hire new grad or external candidates...and my department has 8hrs shift which is tiring. (I prefer work longer hours and less days, i do well with longer hours as I have done double shift/OT before with no issue).

Ugh, I know what you mean. Working 3 days a week is so much better than 5.

Can anyone direct me towards websites etc to study for this pharm exam? I am pretty adequate in med math but would like to brush up on some things they may ask. CAn anyone also give me any pointers on what to focus my reviews on? I saw someone say EKGs and acls meds which I'm pretty strong in..
