SSN for Illinois NCLEX???

Published

Hi everyone! I'm new here so I apologize if what I'm about to ask has already been posted before. I just want to know if a SSN is required to be able to take the NCLEX exam for Illinois state. I do not have a SSN so will they still process my request to take the examination? Thanks in advance!

The only delay you will have is if the state requires a SSN to issue a license therefore you have to wait until in the US and have your SSN before you can work. It shouldn't have any other affect on your immigration application meeting state requirements and passing NCLEX

thanks. :) my friend got her license in IL even without a SSN and expired visa. so im not that worried. Hopefully i can finish this NCLEX already just need the SSN that will be supplied to me. Cant wait to work!.. >. and I'm already taking pre-req and finishing support classes for BSN.

Thanks silver.

Illinois will issue license without SSN. I just don't know if they require it when you renew your license.

If you are married to a US citizen, then your immigration papers will be out in a few months. However, if your wife is GC holder, it will take sometime.

yeah thats what i didnt make it clear with my friend who was in the same situation as me. She applied for NCLEX without SS.. got her license (same week she got her SSN from her 2 & 1/2 month process), and when had to renew it.. (she took it in march..... same year it was expired on MAY) she had to renew it... she wasnt asked for a SSN. She was already working in Hospital after she took the exam.

Just because the state issues a license without a SSN doesn't mean you can work, most employers will now ask for proof of status and that you have the legal right to work. Remember if caught employing illegally the employer can be fined $$$$$ and risk jail because the government is stamping down on people employing illegally
