Sprott Shaw, CDI College, Stenberg or keep trying to get into community college?

Published

Hello everyone,

I am hoping to get some advice from anyone on here that may have experience with the LPN programs at any private colleges in BC. I have been applying to the community colleges but with no luck so far. I have just received two rejection letters so now am thinking more about the private college route. I hadn't considered this before because of their very high tuition rates and wasn't sure if private colleges were viewed in the same way by potential employers. I don't wish to spend my time and money unwisely if it will not lead to potential job opportunities after graduation. I also want to receive a good education so that I can provide excellent care to my future patients !

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Do some research.

How many of their students pass CPRNE on their first attempt?

Where are their placements?

Remember they are a business and there to make a profit.

Google is your friend. CDI had an issue in Alberta with their students and paperwork for CPRNE.

A young friend is just finishing school and has nothing good to say about the CDI and Sprott Shaw instructors encountered while in hospitals with the local vocational college.

Thank you for the advice. :) These are great questions to ask them ! I have heard rumours also about thesame issues with Sprott Shaw and CDI so I was hoping someone that is currently attending might be able to shed some light. I don't want to just be able to say that I attended school, I really want to be a good nurse so if the schools are not providing a good education to their students (I think your suggestion of asking what the % that pass the CPRNE would probably answer this question) I wouldn't be interested in attending there.

It was just on the news that CLPNA will no longer allow CDI here in Alberta to offer the PN programme. (Global TV News). Students currently enrolled will be permitted to finish their education and then no more.

Take this into consideration.

I found this site helpful and it has 2 of the colleges mentioned plus another one you might be interested in. I talked to the people there and was going to enrol, but my circumstances changed so can't consider it right now, but may in the future. Good luck.

Good luck.

Very slick. The name makes you think of VCC-Vancouver Community College which used encompass Langara and the Vancouver Vocational Institute where PN students traditionally were trained.

I personally am doing the RN route as the amount of money you are going to pay a private school is close to the price of a degree. VCC (Vancouver community college) seems pretty good but ya the wait lists are so long I was on it for two years. My friend however when to stenburg and now is a LPN with Fraser health. She paid 21 grand but that was when it was the one year program but she said it was a good program!

Has anybody here gone to Stenberg College? I have been a health care aide and enjoy distance education classes. Was thinking of Stenberg Psychiatric Nursing, but does anybody have any information on the cost of the two year program. I also was thinking about taking the two year LPN program. I guess the LPN would be cheaper initially, but still time-wise it is still the same investment. Does anybody know the price of the Stenberg College Psychiatric Nursing Program. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

You can book an appointment to see the advisor and she will tell you the cost and other questions you may have. In person is better so you can provide your transcript they look at it and other information. I just went to stenberg college today about Lpn program she gave me copy of how much it all cost
