Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

Congrats to everyone who has an interview!! :yeah:I also have an interview on September 16th at 8 am. Is anyone considering taking the park and ride/metrorail? I think I would rather do that than battle with rush hour traffic and parking. I have taken the bus/train to the zoo before, and UT is a block away from the stop after the zoo, i believe.

I have another question: Has anyone decided how they will be paying for everything? I was thinking I will be getting a student loan, but (and this is going to sound really dumb) I am not quite sure how they work. Is it like any other loan, where they give you the full loan amount and you are responsible for paying the respective people? Or do they pay the school for you? I just graduated high school in '09 and have been in community college these past few semesters, so this is the first time I have had to prepare for a major 4 year university.

My last question: What does an average nursing school week look like during your first semester? How many days are you in lecture, lab or clinicals? How long are you in TMC everyday?

During your first semester you will have lab on Mondays for a 2 hr time slot that you are assigned, a four lecture on Tuesdays, Pharm from 8-11 and Patho from 1-4 on Thursdays. Wed, Fri, or Sat will be one of your clinical days, but until they start, which is mid Oct. you will have skills lab on Wed or Fri.

So I understand the writing sample is based on a medical situation - this makes me nervous! I did ok on the critical thinking section of the HESI (850) but I definitely do not feel comfortable with my evaluation skills (as yet). How in depth are the questions? Do they give you 3 scenarios and you pick one? or they assign you one? Am I the only one feeling like this?

@shanti- NOPE, I hear ya!! I'm

Are there people who are still receiving interview notifications still????

You are not alone. No matter how prepared I get, I will still not feel prepared enough. I hope the important thing about the interview, is that we be ourselves and show them how hard we have worked this far and how serious we are about our education. Many of us (myself included) do not come from a heavy medical background and i hope they take that into consideration. You did great on the critical thinking!!! Good Job!!!

If you live in The Woodlands Area, The Woodlands Express goes straight to medical center from the Research Forest Park an Ride.:up:

I live just behind The Woodlands off of 2978 and the parkway. Does The Woodlands Express leave from the park and ride off of Gosling?

I believe the park and ride off gosling is the Research forest park and ride and yes, their schedule shows a bus that leaves at 6:15am and gets to medical center at 7:15am. Please confirm. Here is the link
