2020 Spring SMU ABSN program

Hey guys! wanted to start a tread for SMU ABSN program! Feel free to post any questions, updates or vent as this is a stressful time for all of us! Best of luck to you all!

In my experience, the ABSN program applicants only get 2 emails. One that says you’ve made it through the preliminary review and then the final email notifying you of acceptance/denial/waitlist status. Don’t worry about not receiving the same emails. All the programs operate differently. Hope that helps calm the nerves a bit! ?

I think most people who applied received a thank you for applying email, which also spoke of a preliminary review. That was back in July, I believe.

I didn’t receive mine until 8/9. Maybe check your Spam/Junk Mail folder?

I think the preliminary review email was sent out from July-August, judging from the responses here of when most people received theirs. I'm not sure about everyone else, but mine also included a general preview of what SMU had on file for my prereqs, HESI score breakdown, number of letters of recommendation, and graduation conferment date. They asked me to verify that this info was correct so that my app can proceed to the next phase of the review process. Check your spam folder if you did not receive this.

Okay now I’m freaking out. I got the prelim email on 8/14, but it didn’t say anything about my stats like yours did. It just says, “Thank you for your interest ... Throughout the application process you will receive notifications and updates when they are appropriate.” However, this was the ONLY email I got.

My only guess is that each school is different with how much correspondence they do. Which campus did you apply to? I applied to Sacramento and my email was the same as yours (no stats).

My preliminary email starts off the exact same as yours, except it provides some stats from my application as well. Are you applying with all of the prerequisites fulfilled already? I'm in the process of finishing mine up, and they were missing my conferral date as well since I recently graduated. Maybe the admissions office just needed more information from me pertaining to my application.

My email did not contain any of the information that @wenjiao had in the email. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. In the times I have applied, each applicant’s experience has been different and it never led to a positive or negative outcome that I could see. Deep breaths! We’re almost there!

That makes me feel better! I applied to the San Mateo campus. We’ll hear back literally any day now.....

I also applied to the San Mateo campus! There is a good chance that we will hear from SMU this week regarding admission decisions... I remember listing Sacramento as my second choice; does anyone know how the admission decision works if we do not get into our first choice?

@amk I don’t know exactly how it works for first and second choices. I do know that in reading last threads and going off my own experience, I have not heard of someone who was denied their first choice and admitted on the second choice. There was one student last year that was accidentally given San Mateo when they only put Sac, but that was quickly fixed. My guess is that a second choice would kick in if that second choice campus wasn’t filled up. So, kinda like an overflow? But since all the campuses are impacted, I think you get in, are waitlisted, or denied only on your first choice. But that’s only a guess based on experience and hearing from other applicants. Fingers crossed it’ll be this week.

Every morning I wait for 7 am to roll around... nothing for me yet today! Anybody else? Last year it seems they started receiving acceptance emails around the 3rd...
