Spring 2014 Samuel Merritt University BSN direct-entry Nursing Program

Published

Hello everyone!

I will be applying to SMU's direct-entry BSN program for the Spring of 2014 and was wondering if anyone is going to be applying for that term as well. I met with a counselor about my prereqs and I have about 6 prereqs in progress for the fall, and 2 to be taken over the summer. I asked her if it would hurt my chances since its a large number of class (with physio and developmental psych among them) and she said it won't and that it's normal since that happens to most people. They will base me on what I have already done. I have 2 C's and the rest are all A's and B's. If I do well in my summer classes, I'm looking at around a 3.4 :( I know it's not that great of a GPA... But the counselor said that they will be looking at more than just my GPA (btw, the counselors there are really nice as oppose to the school that I asked for help and told me that I should reconsider nursing and find another degree since my grades weren't that well). I have volunteer experience and hope to complete my 100hrs by the deadline. I also hope to have my volunteer supervisor and microbio prof as my recommendations. And she said that they look for mainly the reading comprehension and math sections of the TEAS-- must meet or exceed national average so I hope to be studying this summer for that as well. Anyone who has been accepted have any tips on what they did to get in? What should I do to be a competitive candidate? If this doesn't work out what else schools will overlook my overall GPA? (My overall GPA with SMU's prereqs is significantly higher than my overall at my school right now, which is only a 3.00.. sad, I know). How to write an exceptional essay to stand out? Also anyone else applying for that term? What're your stats? Thanks in advanced and good luck to everyone! :)

I haven't heard either...I hope tomorrow is the day! Did anyone hear back and get on the wait list??

Good luck everyone:)

Still no word.. And anxiously biting my nails :/

I wish they would have waited until all the decisions were made so that people weren't anxious in limbo for those who haven't heard yet. I guess a lot of denials went out, so maybe hope for us who haven't heard anything yet???

Checked mail box today, nothing. Checking email every 2 minutes, nada. Missed calls, zero. At this point no news is good news I suppose. Fingers crossed for us all.

That is what I keep telling myself too PhilLeo

I called today just to make sure my info was correct , I was told by someone in the office that they're sending out acceptances/rejections as they're reviewed. She also told me that we should hear back by the end of this week aka tomorrow, or the latest Monday and If we don't hear anything from them by then, get a hold of your respective admissions counselor. She also told me that these letters should be in email format

Hi Ogambao, if you don't mind me asking, did you pay your deposit yet? And if so, did you do it online or in person? I went online and just deposited the amount in my balance but I'm not sure if that's what we're supposed to do...

I did my deposit online. If you are worried about them not sending information yet, dont worry. I called and it said that it takes 7-10 business days before they send us emails about the program. We start January 6, and orientation is 4 days before! Are you going to be staying in oakland or commuting?

How much is the deposit?

So not sure how accurate the info I was given, but looks like they are accepting 32 transfer students and with a minimum GPA of 3.8. Again, I don't know how accurate this is, but it sounds about right from everything and everyone I k ow who has attended and works at SMU

If you don't mind me asking, what is the due date for the deposit?

That's good to know. Did you hear that from a counselor?
