Spring 2014 Samuel Merritt University BSN direct-entry Nursing Program

Published

Hello everyone!

I will be applying to SMU's direct-entry BSN program for the Spring of 2014 and was wondering if anyone is going to be applying for that term as well. I met with a counselor about my prereqs and I have about 6 prereqs in progress for the fall, and 2 to be taken over the summer. I asked her if it would hurt my chances since its a large number of class (with physio and developmental psych among them) and she said it won't and that it's normal since that happens to most people. They will base me on what I have already done. I have 2 C's and the rest are all A's and B's. If I do well in my summer classes, I'm looking at around a 3.4 :( I know it's not that great of a GPA... But the counselor said that they will be looking at more than just my GPA (btw, the counselors there are really nice as oppose to the school that I asked for help and told me that I should reconsider nursing and find another degree since my grades weren't that well). I have volunteer experience and hope to complete my 100hrs by the deadline. I also hope to have my volunteer supervisor and microbio prof as my recommendations. And she said that they look for mainly the reading comprehension and math sections of the TEAS-- must meet or exceed national average so I hope to be studying this summer for that as well. Anyone who has been accepted have any tips on what they did to get in? What should I do to be a competitive candidate? If this doesn't work out what else schools will overlook my overall GPA? (My overall GPA with SMU's prereqs is significantly higher than my overall at my school right now, which is only a 3.00.. sad, I know). How to write an exceptional essay to stand out? Also anyone else applying for that term? What're your stats? Thanks in advanced and good luck to everyone! :)

I've called multiple times. As of 4:30 pm last Wednesday my application still said "in review". I called twice today and they connected me to the prospective counselor, but she didn't answer. I left her a message but no response. I know the deposit is due tomorrow, so I'm getting a little worried.

You are not alone.

Me too.. Emailed the counselor earlier and still no reply..

I'm contemplating visiting the campus tomorrow but I don't know if that will be beneficial. There's not much we can do.

It is crazy you all haven't heard yet. Maybe they haven't sent out some emails... I feel like they must already have a decision if they've already made, and numbered the waitlist. It just wouldnt make sense any other way. Good luck guys! Hope you figure it out soon!

I believe this is the first round of electronic applications they've done. I'm hoping there hasn't been anymore technical difficulties... :(

For those of you accepted and planning on attending, when you paid your deposit did you get an e-mail or anything about the next step? When are we supposed to register for classes?

Barr4-

I have not received any emails, and paid my deposit right after I was accepted. I called today and was told that an email should have gone out for the next step in the process. I am now waiting to be called back by another person to be advised on the current status and procedure for registration, etc.

I haven't received a follow up email either after submitting my deposit. It would be nice to know when the orientation is and what our schedule is going to be like! Let me know if you guys hear anything:)

@barr4 they will be emailing us within the next few weeks about registration and orientation. Just be aware it is. On Jam 2-3 n classes start jan 6. In the meantime focus on getting your ardent health record n financial aid papers ready! See you tho semester! You living in Oakland?

Sorry for the spelling mistakes! Any one residing in Oakland for the first time?

Just wondering if the people who were still waiting have heard anything yet? Has anyone on the waitlist heard anything? I know the deposit was due the 3rd and I'm still waiting to hear about any movement on the list :/
