Spring 2008 NYU Applicant No Pre-reqs

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone,

I didn't see a thread specific to my situation so I thought I would start one.

I applied for Spring 2008 for NYU's Accelerated Second Degree BSN but I have very few of the pre-reqs completed. I was told it would take me one semester longer but I could still do it much faster their way.

Is anyone else in this situation? Any acceptances letters coming in yet? Anyone else questioning their ambition to go to nursing school?

Also, does anyone know what semester you take med-surg at NYU? I hear once you complete that you can start applying for summer externships, which means $$$ coming in.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I'm applying to NYU. Which pre-reqs do you not have finished? I'll show ya a secret! :)

You can still register for those classes til the end of this month. It's online and self paced, so if you can take those this semester.. you can go straight into the program.

I'm applying.. but I'm not too sure about making it. Crossing my fingers though! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the help, Devee! If I don't get into NYU for the pre-reqs for Spring 2008, I'm definitely using those courses on U. of Rochester.

Was is November 15 that NYU said they would send out letters by?

Hello, I am looking for pre-reqs myself and I just have to say you guys should be careful with this. Rochester is expensive and they offer NO LAB SECTION. NYU and ALL the other nursing schools require LAB for these science courses. READ the FAQ section on the Rochester nursing school site and you will see. In NY, a good place to do pre-reqs with LAB is throught SLN. It is cheaper b/c it is SUNY, and you are sure they will transfer. Good luck to all.

Completion of the following required prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better before starting the program:

  • Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II, or one semester of Anatomy and one semester of Physiology
  • Chemistry (one semester only) with lab
  • Microbiology
  • Nutrition
  • Statistics
  • Developmental Psychology or Life Span Psychology (courses in Introduction to Psychology, General Psychology, or Abnormal Psychology will not satisfy this prerequisite)

For NYU, labs are recommended. For UR, those meet their prereqs. I don't think a lab is necessary for NYU, just recommended. For sure you need a lab in chemistry though.

Ok then, if you say so but I looked at the course description today, and it said that students who are registering for A&P MUST sign up for labs. The safest thing to do would be to speak with someone from the university b/c that would sure be a lot of time and money wasted. Just trying to help1!!

How does the SLN do labs online?

I just noticed NYU wrote letters will be mailed out mid-November or within one month of application date. Since I filed on October 23, I'm assuming I'll have to wait a week longer than most to find out if I'm in. :uhoh3:

Thanks to both of you for your help!

They do it through the virtual lab. The tests are timed so you must study the parts and be able to identify through the lab. and Its SUNY so it is more than acceptable. you can do A and P through alfred state university or cayuga community college. Both are suny.

so how's the wait coming along? pretty nerve wracking huh? what did you graduate with for your first degree? just wanted to go get to know more people who are applying. :)

best bet is to talk to an advising counselor or even the admission counselor for the nrusing program itself at the school. I know they're always happy to help you out and try to guide you in the right direction. Dont' take a class when you don't know for sure if it's transferrable because it's definitely a waste of time and money if you have to retake it for the lab. A friend of mine did that and her credits weren't accpeted so she had to go through a repeat for a couple of classes. Just be careful.

I called them today. They said they do accept the University of Rochester classes. GL!

Hi, I'm waiting to hear back from NYU as well. Has anyone received any news? I'm hoping to hear back this week.. but we'll just have to wait and see...
