Spring 2019 Nassau Community College

Published

Hi! Anyone else looking to apply to NCC for the Spring 2019 Nursing Program? I'm so curious and anxious to know if I have enough 'points' to make the cut. How are you guys feeling? How are your points/stats adding up?

@Nc1166 It's not just by GPA, it's really by the quality points for prerequisite courses. You must take each course and multiply the number of credits by your letter grade (Ex. A&P=4cr; if you got an A, thats 16pts). Do this for every course required. Then you can add all of the points for TEAs, Nassau Resident, and never being in a nursing program.

@ajusty2 Someone who spoke to an admissions rep in a previous thread posted how to calculate your points... It's by quality points, so the more prerequisite classes you have completed with C+ or better, and the higher your teas score, the better your chances.

Here is how the point system works. The maximum amount of points a person can receive is a 192. This is how it is broken down. It was explained to me by one of the admissions directors of Nassau, not the nursing program.

-GPA credit

There are a total of 33 credits you can complete without being in a nursing program. So if you have a 4.0 GPA with 33 credits, you multiple the credits that apply to nursing times your GPA. Including transfer grades. My GPA with the nursing classes I took there, is a 3.85, but with my transfer classes, it's a 3.58.

So, 33×4=132.

***(I think it's more accurate to multiply credits for each prerequisite course, by the letter grade to get the total number of quality points.)***

-TEAs

They take 3 sections of the teas into consideration, the math, reading, and English and language usage. You can get a total of 45 points for the Teas, a maximum of 15 points for each section, depending on the score in each section you can get, 5, 10, or 15 points for each section, not the average score.

if you get a 58.7-79, you get 5 points

if you get a 80-89, you get 10 points

if you get a 90-100, you get 15 points.

so if you get a 90 or higher in all math, English and language, and reading, you would get a total of 45 points.

-RESIDENCY

You get 10 points for living in Nassau

-NURSING PREVIOUSLY?

If you have never been in a nursing program before you get 5 points. If you, let's say, dropped out of Adlephi. Whether you just dropped out on your own or failed out, you just don't get the extra 5, nothing is deducted from you score.

so 132 possible points from class, 45 possible points from the Teas, 10 for living in Nassau, and 5 for not being in a nursing program before.

132+45+10+5=192 points.

@Rpersa03 ... I think your English and Reading may be 5 points each. From previous threads where people have attended information sessions, 90-100= 15pts, 80-89= 10pts, 59-79= 5pts ...unless of course they recently changed it. Either way, everything else is correct, and you appear to be in good standing.

I confirmed with the department of the limits - I have it written down in my car lol , Im literally scratching it by With like .4 points

Oh okay. Are the limits you got from the department different from what I posted? This information was from previous threads. I calculated 25pts for my TEAs.

87.5 Math= 10

85.1 Reading= 10

75 English= 5

Yes they were a bit different - for the TEAS that is ,

I just read in a past forum from spring 2018 admissions , someone said this :

by Logic

"Scores A =4, B=3, C=2...multiple the amount of credits. So three credits and you got A (3*4=12) then you add it up plus Nassau residents, and teas scores 5 points for 58-70, 10 points for 71 to 89 and 15 points for 90-100. Max you can get is 45 points on the teas for the three subjects area. Comprehension, language and math."

Which is basically what they told me when I called , I confirmed with them 3times about the limits , I pray and hope it is what they said . I'll send it tomrrow once I go in the car and get it .

Also I think you have calculated correctly on your TEAS but will send you tomorrow what they told me .

it is very overwhelming. Last year they heard back on the 17th. And this year they told you with-in two weeks. I literally just accepted a new job, and i'm like if I have to quit thats what I have to do... ugh it's a lot.

I'm praying that they somehow give an answer soon my job is waiting a few more days

Thats good that your job is willing to wait for you. I am also curious how big the pool is this semester. I applied on the first day it opened. I went to one of those information sessions. it was about 50 people in there, nearly all of them were disqualified from applying this semester. I know I shouldn't feel happy but i kinda did. :( / :)

Does anyone know about what is going on with NCC nursing program in the fall? I have heard it will become a bachelors program but I wonder if they will require some different prereqs. I'd like to know before I register just in case I don't get into the program this semester so I can be prepared to apply for the fall, they should really have this info more public if this change is 100% happening fall 2019.

when i spoke to the chair, she stated it was supposed to roll out fall 2019. but they don't have everything to roll it out yet. She said they were close. I didn't intend to apply this spring semester as I wanted the 4 year program, She actually convinced me to apply unsure of the changes for 2019. She told me they would possibly be removing some classes and adding sociology and global awareness in its place. So I guess we will see.

I checked previous forums and this time last year students heard back from NCC. I hope the snow didn't delay anything. Good Luck everyone !

Welp, I just registered for micro since we're still not sure when we'll be getting answers.

I really hope a lot of people just waited to apply for the BSN in the fall!
