SPC

hi, curious to know if anyone is attending st. petersburg college here in fl. i'm planning on going into the nursing program next fall!! :) i'm wrapping up my last year of prerequisites!! i'm currently taking a&p 1, college algebra, a&p 1 lab, american national government (goes towards bsn), and humanities east-west synthesis. yep i have a full plate...plus having a life and working part time!

also, any users in or have been through the nursing program here at spc?! any feedback is much appreciated.

*also have my cna as of june and i would love to start working in the medical field, preferably hospital but with the economy... many places are in a hiring freeze! :( thanks for any input!!

same to you? what exactly is EAYL? A work program.. through the local hospitals?

EAYL is the Earn as you learn program thru Baycare (they are the hospitals like Morton Plant and St Josephs). You can still get into their program even if SPC turns you down as long as you meet all their requirements. It is a sweet deal if you ask me...as long as you don't mind a 3 year contract. Here is the link :)

I def. wouldn't mind a contract with them!! lol!! I would love to get on with the st. joesph's or morton plant!! thanks.. and good luck with your interview.. I have my CNA and have applied to so many positions online.. yet I'm sure they want experience in which I don't know if I can handle working in a nursing home.. but I might give it a shot for the experience..if I can even get a job there.. with the economy the way things are. I just read through the program! that sounds really great.. I have to finish my sciences first though.. and that kind of stinks.. that you don't get to choose where you want to work or the hrs. when you become an RN though!

Lele2be-I know it sucks not to be able to choose...but if you read some of the posts this site, a lot of places only want RN's with experience...but you don't have much experience as an RN RIGHT out of school do ya?!? lol...so I would GLADLY be in that program if they offered it to me and insured me the job when I finished...Good luck!! :)

very true, and because they put you where they need you hopefully they switch it up and let you work in many different areas!! thanks so much for all of you input and advice!

I am applying to both SPC (EAYL) and PHCC. From the paperwork I have for SPC, you must have all your pre-reqs completed and still have 2 months lag before the app deadline. So for instance, I will still be taking A&P II through May of '10, but the deadline to apply for fall '10 at SPC is March 1st. So I will have to wait for the July 1st deadline to try to get into Spring '11. Remember though that SPC does a weird "1st pool, 2nd pool" thing. I have a 7 page PDF that I somehow found on SPC's site that gives evreything you need in terms of dates, info, checklist, but for the life of me I cannot find it again. I will keep looking.

PHCC doesn't have nearly the time between app deadline and start date. They require apps in by June 15th for an Aug start.

oh wow thanks so much for the info!! I'm going try to find that info too! I might apply to PHCC as well because I live in Pasco.. although I have taken all my classes so far at SPC and I really want to attend SPC's program! That sounds like my situation too.. I will be taking A&P 2 in the spring.. n maybe micro over the summer.. so I should plan on SPC's program.. next spring of 2011? That kind of stinks but I'll b happy if I can make it into the program.. do you attend SPC or PHCC?
