SPC nursing 2015

U.S.A. Florida

Hi everyone!

This is my first official post, but I've been creeping around for quite some time now, ha! I just applied to SPC's nursing program for Spring of 2015. I still have to take micro, but I figured I'd apply anyway. Has anyone recently been accepted prior to taking micro? Also what was the average GPA for last semester applicants?

Congrats to all of you who got in! You are in for a crazy, wonderful ride! There actually is a back-stage way to find out what books you'll need. Access the Barnes & Nobles website from SPC's college. Go to textbooks and then fill in Health Education Center as the campus, NUR1021C as the class and pick a section. All of the Nursing 1 sections use the same books. Just make sure you don't pick a section that is an LPN section when looking for books. The books come in packages and they explain that system at orientation, but you can buy several of them used in advance and save a lot of money doing it. I bought most of mine on craigslist, ebay and textbooks.com. Hope this helps!

I'm alternate number 9. I had all pre-reqs done with a 3.53 GPA. I'm kinda disappointed as I know some of you here have around my GPA and got in. I think I'm gonna contact HEC to see what is going on. Anyway, congratulations to all of you that got in!

Yeah I am alternate number 25 with a 3.5 exactly, everything completed. I knew there was a possibility of not getting in but am still super disappointed. I don't really understand how alternate #4 has a 3.86 and is missing micro (4 credits) so they would have 64.4 points, yet they are higher on the list than us, when I have 65 points out of the 70. They told me they go based off of points alone so that makes no sense to me.

Are you a Pinellas county resident?

Thanks for the info! Do you remember how the process works when it comes to being in the Day Program versus the Evening Program? Do we get to choose ... Is it based on the "point system" and those with more points get first choice?

So for some of you wondering on gpa versus completed - it is all points with favor to Pinellas County residents. Some people posting here applied to LPN to RN which probably has a different list. Definitely send an email or call (I had better luck last semester with email) if you think they made an error. They will check for you. You can also go in. The question about day night and hospital choice - I was told based on point ranking but it usually works out just fine. The second round of offers goes out and some if those offered drop off and/or don't complete or pass all the preliminary requirements so hang in there.

For those of you in - lots to do. :) I did the background check and fingerprinting so far. I have drug test and blood titer blood work scheduled tomorrow and CPR Thursday. Some of the requirements don't really have clear directions and that web site is extremely slow for me. Scheduled physical for next week so hoping all my titers and tb test are good.

Yes, I agree. The directions aren't clear on the CertifiedProfile website and it's making me slightly nervous. The due date for the immunizations in my profile were for the Fall 2014 program so it's saying that everything is past due! I didn't realize we had to get the CPR training. As of now, my understanding is that we need the background check and drug test done prior to the 15th, right? And everything else can wait but obviously everything else needs to be done before we start in the Spring? I paid for the background check, I have my drug test, and fingerprint scanning schedule for this week. I'm going to *try* to talk to a counselor tomorrow at the HEC, however, I'm sure they will be very busy with questions from those who and did not make it.

Where are you going for the blood titer and CPR training?

Yes - 1. compete the notice of intent by Nov 7, pay and complete the online background info, and get finger printed (scanned) by Nov 15, and attend orientation on Nov 13. I'm just moving on the rest of the list as it takes some time to schedule with my doctor, get blood tests and labs and vaccines if needed. Also the CPR is an easy one to get out of the way before the holidays. Some of the items don't have any forms or directions other than upload proof so I'm doing what I can and figure I will get the rest of the info at orientation.

sorry - so what a pain, the drug test has to be lab corp (per form you print out); my doctor's office is going to do my tb test but I am going to Quest (my insurance actually covers) for blood titers for MMR, chicken pox and hepatitis B (as I've had immunizations or in the case of chicken pox, the actual infection). Hoping my titers are high enough so I don't have to repeat. Some people just repeat without even testing. I went ahead and got a new tdap and flu shot last month in anticipation. For CPR, I found an American Heart Association provider (it has to be them and the one for health care professionals). It's like $45 for 3-4 hour class. Mine was through a company called teachmenow but there are several places that offer.

Relieved to hear someone else is having the same problem as me. Truly is a terrible feeling after going above and beyond to call and make sure they had everything not once but twice. Best of luck to us!!!

I went to the school and found out it was an error. I was told I should receive another email today about getting into the program. Hope you go to the school and find out what happened in your case. The counselor said they don't fill all 96 spots in case there are errors like mine. SO, if you haven't already, please go.
