SPC fall 2011 nursing program

Published

Hello!

I am finishing up my pre-reqs and will be submitting an application for the fall 2011 start of the nursing program at SPC. I am already super nervous and it seems like the horror stories of rejection due to GPA are getting worse! Is anyone else as nervous as I am?

I'm being considered for the second pool in May. I've been crunching numbers and grades all morning, and even if I do extra credit in Microbiology I'll still have a B in the class (lab too), and my GPA will go from a 3.5 to a 3.3...What are my chances of being accepted for second pool with that GPA? Slim to none? Say a Hail Mary? Outlook not so good?? What about the Spring semester?

SWingate86 - it's hard to say, but with that GPA I would say slim to none. Are there any pre-reqs that you made C's in that you can retake over the summer to reapply for the spring semester? Just don't give up!!

I got a C in APII for the lecture and a C in Statistics - those are my two lowest grades. I've already asked if I could retake those courses and was told by an academic advisor that they were not allowing students to retake courses anymore, so no, I can't retake them :( I'll ask again just to be 100% sure that I can't retake them, because with a 3.3 I have a feeling that I won't get in for the Spring semester...

Hi everyone,

I also just got my acceptance letter in the mail for SPC's Fall 2011. Does anyone know if the EAYL is still accepting applications?

ckc11288 - No, EAYL is no longer accepting applications for their program. Congrats to getting accepted!!!

So I returned the form to complete the admissions process and I saw that we are just wait to hear back to know when Orientation and to do the background and drug tests. However, I am anxious to know how the program is structured. Are we only taking NUR1021C for 9 credits? And if it is possible to work part-time while in the program as I see that there are going to be clinicals.

Any insight is helpful! Thanks

ckc,

At orientation you will give them your first second, third and maybe even fourth choice of clinical sites. They will assign you to one of them and register you for NUR1021. The first semester is 9 credit hours so you can take additional classes but please know that the program will demand a lot of your time. Regarding working, many if not most work while in the program.

Good luck

Congrats to those accepted...and good luck to those in line for the 2nd pool!

Of those accepted....had you completed all your classes prior to applying? What was your GPA?

I'll be applying for Fall 2012 and am trying to gauge whether or not I need to finish all pre-reqs by the end of this year or not. Thanks!

I don't know for certain but most have everything done prior to acceptance. The number of completed courses carry more weight than your GPA when it comes to getting in. Classes completed = 60% GPA= 40% Using a 100 point scale you can think of it this way.... There are 30 credit of pre-reqs and support classes so each credit is worth two points (I'm not including the computer credit) (Go to the GPA calculator on the HEC website to see exactly what classes they use). A 4.0 GPA is worth 40 points, a 3.9 is worth 39 points and on. So if you're missing MCB, MCBL even if you have a 4.0 you'll only have a 92.... Someone with all their courses done and a 3.5 has 95 so you see where you'll be at a disadvantage. Deadline for fall is March 1 so try to finish up your support classes during that spring semester. Good Luck

I still needed to complete one humanities course that I am enrolled in for the summer. BSN will be my 2nd degree so I am not sure if they looked at my biology degree GPA too, but I think I had a 3.6 in my nursing prereq's when I did my own calculations. When I met with a general advisor on campus he told me that 3.7 was the lowest the would accept. But I don't know how much truth there is to that since I don't think I had a 3.7

Good Luck!

Nursing is a second degree for me as well but my BS is in Communications so I needed ALL of the pre-regs.... They don't look at your CUM GPA, they calculate your GPA from the pre-regs and support courses only. There is a calculator on the HEC website. A 3.7 and all the course work done seems to be the magic combination as most of us were at a 3.7 or better when we applied. An A in that humanities course should get you there - Good Luck.

Has anyone gotten a second interview with Baycare EAYL program?
