SPC fall 2011 nursing program

U.S.A. Florida

Hello!

I am finishing up my pre-reqs and will be submitting an application for the fall 2011 start of the nursing program at SPC. I am already super nervous and it seems like the horror stories of rejection due to GPA are getting worse! Is anyone else as nervous as I am?

My GPA is not that competitive! good job for you though! I am currently at 3.76, however I am still in Micro. If I get an A in lecture and lab I will only be at a 3.8. I have also heard this upcoming session was going to be a lot more competitive as well. I spoke with someone from the health center and was told I would hear something back around April 1st. I am so nervous!

Will I be pushed automatically to the side for the first pool because I don't have micro completed? How does that work?

SPC Student - I was pushed to the side last year for fall session for not having micro completed. I was in the same situation as you, but you will be put into the second pool which gets acceptance letters in mid-May. Don't get discouraged, keep applying. I'm on my third time applying and now I have done everything that I can - I've re-taken some classes to boost my GPA, and all pre-reqs are completed. I'm currently taking Developmental Psych and Nutrition for other colleges that require it for nursing. I'm hoping my GPA is competitive enough for this fall session. For some reason it's more competitive to enter in the fall than the spring...

I think with a 3.8 GPA after Micro you'll probably get in with the second pool in May ;)

I spoke to someone at the HEC last week and was told that I need to get A's in Micro in order to be considered for the Spring semester, and even then with a 3.5 GPA my chances of being admitted are questionable...But even with that the Spring is normally a little bit less competitive than the Fall since those with the lower GPAs have their Micros complete before those with the high GPAs. I'm going to apply for the EAYL program as well to try to get in this Fall, but Baycare only has 12 spots available and they offer them to their employees first before they make them available to the general public. Either way I know where I stand now and know that I'll have to reapply for the Spring. Until then I'm going to finish my AA this summer and do what I can to up my chances!

Good luck - I have a feeling you'll make it though :)

haimyem, how were you able to retake classes? I was thinking of retaking ethics for an A, but I didn't think SPC allowed that. How did you do it?

SPC Student - I was able to retake them simply because I did not take the original classes at SPC. The advisor was telling me that had I taken them at SPC, she would have told me to go to HCC to retake the classes and then have the credits transferred over and only then would they replace them. Sounds a bit convoluted to me, but thankfully I didn't have to go down that route since I had never taken the classes at SPC.

Just making sure that you're aware that they only use certain classes to calculate GPA. The HEC website has a GPA calculator you can use. I'm currently in the program. My CUM GPA wasn't that great but I had mostly A's in the courses that counted so I got in. Good luck to you.

Anyone get acceptance letters yet (or rejection letters)?

I know I won't get in for the Fall semester...I'm in Micro now and have a 3.4 GPA, so it's a given that I will be denied. I'll be applying again for the Spring semester if I don't get into the EAYL program (had an interview last week, hopefully that went over well and I'll get a second round interview, won't find out for a while though)...

Good luck to everyone...The wait is almost over!

Mailbox was empty today! I most likely won't get in for fall session either... but there's a little hope there!! Keepin my fingers crossed...

Good luck everyone.. I'm checking my mailbox as well. I hope everyone who gets their letters will post here! I've got a 3.76 overall which I guess is borderline so I'm dying to find out who gets in first round and what your GPA is :)

I graduate this May and I have to say. My "nursing GPA" was about a 3.6. I did have ALL the pre- and co- requisites done. I was accepted first round in the fall.

Thanks, AT.. that is definitely encouraging. Congratulations on being an almost RN grad! I'd love to hear your reflections about the program..

AT, I would love you hear about it as well... and thank you for the encouragement!
