SPC Fall 2014 Nursing Applicants

Published

So I have done my application for SPC's RN program as well as BayCare's EAYL program. I'm just curious how many other people on here are also applying. We can wait for our acceptance's (wishful thinking) together.

Hi all! First time posting. Just got my acceptance letter today and from following this forum it appears there are a lot of things to get done. The acceptance email only mentioned the background procedure and when orientation is. Can anyone tell me how orientation goes or info that would be helpful to know going into orientation please? I work full time so I'll be needing the evening program. Any insight on what schedule/classes I should be looking into? Thanks so much!

I got in today as well! Congrats to all the other alternates that were accepted!

This is my first time posting on here but I got my acceptance letter today also!! See all the other alternates at orientation on August 4th! Is there any other stuff we can get done before orientation? All the email said was regarding the background check. Thanks!

Probably best to wait for orientation - physical, blood titers/vaccines, and CPR training all need to be done but they give you extra time on some of these - just need to be done before clinical starts is my understanding. If you read back through the thread there is some info from those accepted on round 1. I know they go to alternate #9 at least (4.0 people with 26 of 30 hours completed). Anybody higher on alternate list? just curious....as I'm a 3.885 with 26 completed (64.85 of 70 pts) so further down the list.

I just wanted to congratulate you all!

The background check website will give you the requirements for everything that needs to be done. We were told at orientation that we had to have everything by the second week of school. I hope this helps. You can call the nursing office at the HEC with any specific questions. They have been very accessible and helpful to me so far. Good luck! See you all in class!

Thanks for the info everyone! Sounds like it's easier to just wait until orientation on the 4th to get all the info. Jfrazier7, to answer your question, I was alternate #19 so was surprised to get in that far down the list. I'm slightly terrified of working full time and going back to school lol Good luck to us all!

I would not wait until the 4th to get things done.

I would do your drug and background check now and possibly a few shots

I wish you luck with working full time, that will be hell I think, but you can do it!

The Tb skin test takes 2 weeks to complete by itself and if you dont have a chicken pox positive titer that could take a month.

I have a question for everyone that went to the first orientation. What hospitals were available for the clinicals?

Ditto what Drew said...get what you can get done now, NOW!

Day:

Northside - Pinellas Park

St. Anthony's - St. Pete

Healthsouth - Largo

Morton Plant on Pinellas St. - Clearwater

FHNP - Tarpon Springs

Night:

Healthsouth - Largo

Bay Pines VA

Ed White

Thanks for the info, all! I've started going thru everything that was on the background page. I'm waiting to hear back from the school to see if I have to do the fingerprints as mine are already on file with FDLE and the FL Bar. Does anyone happen to know that answer if we have to get them done if they're already on file w/ the state? Any opinion on what hospital is better for night?

I don't know the answer regarding your fingerprints. Most likely, they will ask you to redo them. Mine were on file with FDLE too because I worked for an agency that required fingerprinting and I had to redo mine. I would definitely wait to hear from the school directly regarding that.

As for the hospitals, it really depends on where you live and what experience you are trying to have. I think if I were working full-time, I would want to go wherever was closest to minimize the time spent driving in the car. I think alternates get whatever was left over, though, so I am not sure how much choice you will have in the matter, unfortunately. :( Hopefully, I am wrong about that.

I do know that HealthSouth is a much smaller facility than the other two major hospitals...it's 75 beds! The thing is, SPC started a new policy. If you choose an HCA hospital, you will do ALL of your clinicals in future semesters in HCA hospitals. If you choose Baycare, than you stay with Baycare hospitals. If you are in an un-affiliated hospital that is neither HCA or Baycare, you get what the school chooses for you.

I, personally, chose Baycare, as I have not heard very positive things about working conditions in HCA hospitals. If I am going to be networking and meeting people, I want to do clinicals in a system where I might have the opportunity to work if I make the right connections.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

Unless you had them done with SPC, I'm about 99% sure you'll have to get them done again.
