Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone! I’m starting this thread so we can share our application criteria points with each other! I just turned in my application today. I have between 85 and 88 points. I have 3 B’s on my science prerequisites :((, 4.0 gpa for all the general Ed courses. I have fluency in Spanish, an associates degree, CNA, and volunteer experience. I scored an 88 on my TEAS! I hope they can look past my grades in my prerequisite courses and I get in!!! I hope we all get into this cohort! Good luck everyone

Any alternates get a call aside from hopefulrn1212?

Happy for that person... Yet sad for me. Lol ?

Good idea about taking course!

Did they firm up your schedule? Nights and days? Just not sure what to think at this point.

Yeah, I guess... I just don't know at this point who would be so rude as to not say they aren't going there.

I just had so much hope with the other people in the past that had good luck with being alternates. . Apparently things were done completely different this year, and obviously there were tons of us. I'm trying to be hopeful....I just don't understand why they took so many alternates in the first place.

Not necessarily being rude but life gets in the way sometimes and different routes need to be taken. One of the girls on our Facebook group is actually in the hospital right now. I'm not sure if its serious or not but that's an example of how life changes. And people cant commit to the program.

Girl I understand that life gets in the way trust me. I really hope that girl is okay.

If u only knew my story, u would know that I totally get it. I was in an ABSN program back in 2012. My second to last semester (only one semester left) I accepted an externship at UCSD in the CVICU and was going through a horrible marriage and divorce. Again I had one semester left.... I had a 3.5 gpa. However after with my marriage collapse and taking too much on with that externship, my grades plumeted during finals and had 2 classes(theory courses) that I "fluncked.". Remember a C is fluncking in nursing... Guess where that landed me? Dropped from the program. My life drastically changed. I took too much time off so have to start over. I started school when I was 28 at Cal State in the ABSN and am now 35 trying to get accepted

I know life takes some crazy turns. Moral of the story the class passing policy in nursing school is no joke. And your relationships will take a back seat. I have been incredibly humbled. It is very hard sitting here as an alternate when I should have been an rn 5 years ago. So I apologize for being stressed. And I apologize if I sound rude. But I still to this day get a little on edge with the whole situation.

I apologize I did not mean to make that about me.

My unsolicited advice is prepare to not have a boyfriend / girlfriend or a good marriage when you're in school, unless your significant other can handle you telling them u can't hang out for the next two years. I got married my first semester of nursing school, and you know the ending. Some can handle it, others need your undivided attention and will do whatever they must to get it. And if you have anything going on in your life talk to a professor so they are aware... Lastly DON'T take on too much unless you can handle it all. Take it from my experience.

I really hope that girl is okay. And sorry for talking about my life disasters. ?

Oh wow, what a rollercoaster. Sorry to hear this. I am new to the acronym absn. Does that mean asn and bsn program combined? Is that not the same as BSN program?

No worries. I'm surprised I even said anything. I typically always keep to myself, unless it's someone who is close to me. Lol. It brings back a lot of emotions. Hence why I took so much time off.

Its an accelerated BSN program. Lol it's basically for people like me that took a while and another degree before they figured out that nursing was for them

Gotcha. How long was your accelerated program?

They are 2 years.... 6 total semesters (24 months) as you have no breaks or summers off. I was almost to my 6th semester. And they are pretty accelerated. Lol. My head was spinning by the end with all that happened. Lol
