Southwestern College ADN Fall 2019

Published

Hi everyone! I’m starting this thread so we can share our application criteria points with each other! I just turned in my application today. I have between 85 and 88 points. I have 3 B’s on my science prerequisites :((, 4.0 gpa for all the general Ed courses. I have fluency in Spanish, an associates degree, CNA, and volunteer experience. I scored an 88 on my TEAS! I hope they can look past my grades in my prerequisite courses and I get in!!! I hope we all get into this cohort! Good luck everyone

I've never done anything with dosage before and we are expected to get 100% but an lvn that went to school for it and possibly worked as an lvn needs to get 90%. So weird. Maybe they are given a more difficult test?‍♀️

I think they figure if you can't pass the calc test, then there is little chance you'll successfully make it through the program. It also instills just how important safe medication administration is. You mess up (especially with an infant or child) and you could kill someone.

But I agree the LVN to adn should also have to get 100%

I definitely agree if you cant do math you wont make it far in nursing. I like math but weird they would expect more from someone with no experience in calculating dosages. I'm just reviewing it on YouTube so I'm sure I'll be fine. Just odd in difference.

Off topic, but is there any way you could retake the teas to maybe get a better points?

Yes of course; however, some schools only take the first attempt if it's over 62 or whatever their qualifying score is. Grossmont allows 2 attempts and averages the two. Southwestern unfortunately only allows 1 attempt.

I've also heard of schools that allow 2 attempts in 1 year but they take the higher one( SDSU). And some that allow countless attempts (only heard this from YouTube teas takers) I'm not sure what school they applied to.

So Prbbly I should either stick to SW or try applying at City cuz at City College I have to do the remediation plan cuz one of the sub category (Language Usage and Grammar) I got >62% ? but when I do the remediation plan I won’t be able to try applying at SW since they accept only the first attemp.

If you scored lower than 62 southwestern will allow you take retake it. I think they also require a remediation course and at least 30 days from last time taking the teas.

Was your overall score less than 62?

No, just on that Language Usage category. My overall is greater than 62% . Just asking if taking the remediation plan at City college will affect my SW application

I honestly know nothing about city college but I dont see how anything you do with city would affect your chances with southwestern or any other college.

Each college requires different things. Like I heard city requires some sort of success course before starting the program but southwestern doesnt. You wont lose or gain points at southwestern from doing something extra at city or whatever college.
