Southwestern College ADN Fall 2017

Published

Hi everyone! I thought I'd start a whole new topic for those who applied to Southwestern's Fall 2017 cohort. This is the first time I've applied for a nursing program, so I am very excited and nervous of whats to come. I'm curious to see the amount of points you have totaled so I know what I'm up against. I totaled my points to be 74/75, so that may be low compared to some of you. I wish everyone luck and I hope to see you in August!

Hello :) congrats on your acceptance! As a current RN student at SWC I would advice on taking this summer course. It really helps you throughout your first year of nursing school and the professor is amazing :)

That is correct jacjacjac, there are 40 students in the AM and 20 of us in the evening but only for the first year. Once we go to third semester 20 LVN step up students will be joining our class.

Quick question, how much will the program be in total ? and... when do you pay?

Honestly it would vary. Some student have pell grant, BOG, cal grant, scholarships, it all depends. The program is just like any other semester at a community college. You pay for the classes you will be taking that semester. For my first semester it was only 9 units. Then you pay for insurance which to be honest I don't recall how much it was, you pay for your books, and a program called: "Kaplan" which you will be taking other tests on. If I remember correctly it's $150 a semester (it could be different though). Apart from that you will need to purchase scrubs, white shoes, lab coat, and I believe that's it. Most of your expenses will be the first semester. Not sure if that helps out a bit.

It does help out a lot, thank you !The only thing I'll have to worry about is books, the insurance, and "Kaplan". How much for books ? I'd imagine they were quite expensive. I appreciate you answering our questions.

No worries, I was there last semester, I completely understand. The books... depends on where you buy them from honestly. You could buy them through the website they'll tell you about in orientation or online. A couple books you may not even need to buy if you feel comfortable using ebooks. There's a course called "coursepoint" where you'll have assignments due and the program comes with an ebook. I'm an old fashioned type of learner so I bought the books as well. I believe I paid about $800-$900 in books but some people did find cheaper deals.

Thank you BoBayla! I'm not sure how to private message here but I would really appreciate it if I can get more info from you about the program, syllabus, and such. Can you email me at [email protected]? :) Or anyone else too! Current students, future students, let's help each other out! =)

Thank you for all the information Ednies!

Hi BoBayla,

I also will be attending SW. Could you send me a copy of your syllabus.

Thanks,

Hi Ednies,

I will be going to SW as well and was wondering if you could send me the syllabus too.

Sorry, forgot to include my email: [email protected]

Hi everyone,

Was anyone able to get the syllabus from previous students? If so, could you forward it to me.
