Hello....I'm needing to know if anyone has any info on this university?? I just recently came across it while trying to figure out what I should do. I hear they have a LVN to RN program and that is of interest to me. I am wanting to get my BSN in the end and hopefully this university might be the place?? :) Any info on the program would be great!!

SWA is a private University in Keene Texas. The tuition is high compared to regular BSN programs (somewhere between 6- 10 thousand semester). They do have a LVN to BSN program, I know it is not that hard to get into several people I know with low GPA's have been able to get in. I do not live far from SWU, but whenever I have made the attempt to get information I can never get ahold of anyone.Although I have checked on this program extensivly I cant remember the LVN to RN start dates (I think it is fall and spring). The people I have talked to really like the program. The one thing I did not like is that you must take religion courses. I had enough of that when I was married to the preacher from hell. However I would go ahead and take the courses if I could get some information about the program. Let me know what you find out...
Let me mention one more thing. Hill college (Johnson county extension) has a LVN to ADN program. Now it used to be that you applied through McClennan College in Waco and took all your classes at Hill in Cleburne. I was told some time back that Hill may go on it's own with the program. I do know that last year the apllication dates was from the end of August to the first part of Oct. The students then started in Jan. It has alot of testing out of nursing classes and then you take the last part of the RN program which for them is I think 2 semesters. You must take the LVN- gap test in Waco though. I have once again been on the phone trying to get info but both schools are in their enrollment period and it has been impossible to get info. I know the pre-classes are not that many , no algebra but they require some type of computer course ( no keyboarding). That is where I am going to apply because I failed algebra and cannot go to Tarleton State until next fall because of it.
Great info.....thanks. I did get your PM about the professors...thanks. I'm ready for the classes to start so I can just be done (negative attitude I know :) lol.) I will keep you posted about the SAU and you keep me posted about the Hill College...how far is that from Arlington/Ft Worth I20. I am hoping to not have more than a 30 minute drive....I can always hope. :) I have already decided that I will just get loans for school IF a school will JUST accept me. I'll always have debt so what the heck.. lol. A friend of mine that is also checking into SAU talked to someone there and was told that the next class would be fall 2006 though. I have all my classes already completed now I'm just going back and retaking some to help up my GPA so I am applying to all the schools around here in hopes of one. Keep me posted about what you find out and I'm so sorry to hear about the algebra thing. Are you retaking it??

I have friends that live in Keene and went to this college. I have thought about going there, but I'm not too thrilled about taking the religion courses as I am not that same religion.
I'm in Midlothian, and it takes about 30 min to get to Keene (we go there every Friday) and probably 40 min to get to Cleburne.

Hill College is just beginning their nursing program (ADN) on the Hillsboro campus. It would take you about an hour to get there...Just get to I-35 and head south.
This is a program that has been in place now for about 4 -5 years. The thing is the last time I checked you enrolled through McClennan County College and took your classes at Hill in Cleburne. They were talking about making it their own program but i dont know if that has happened as of yet. This is not like a traditional transition program though , there is alot of testing out of things and test to take. I know you have to take the LVN-GAP test and that is given in Waco at teh MCC testing center , next test date is 10-20-05 . I just checked on that. The only thing I do not like about this program is you must have a computer course prior to admission. But the good side is they do not require algebra!!! I just re-read your post are you saying the Hillsboro campus, really... I know they do it at the Johnson County campus. Maybe they did take over the program...
I'm pretty sure Hill in Hillsboro just started their RN program this semester. They got a new president, and she's really pushing the ADN program, which is great, I think! I don't know much about it since it's so new...It's their own program, though...Not through McLennan CC.
Thanks everyone for your input....I will keep checking into different places and let y'all know if I come across anything new.

I went to SWAU - the 2 religion courses are no big deal - very basic, and really interesting - for non religious type like me even! And they have GREAT finaincial aid and lots of scholarships!!!
Yes it's expensive. Texas tuition equalization grant helps to make up for that and they have a really knowledgeable financial aid office who really helps you find the money you need.
Most semesters, I worked full time nights at a hospital in Fort Worth - 3 nights a week and jsut paid the semester off as I went. By next semester the last one was paid off and I took out another 1 semester loan and did it again.
oh....and at the time - I didn't need algebra!
I would go over there for a visit instead of trying to call. And most of the info is online.

Looks like the LVN transition starts in the spring!
I just received all my info on this ... But I am worried about FA. I need about 3000 overage to help pay for daycare. Does that seem doable at SWA?
