I am in Southern University's nursing program. I began last semester and from what I can gather, they take about 80 students a semester and the minimum gpa is 2.6. However, it is becoming very competitive and a good portion of the students on the campus are there for nursing. My gpa going in was a 3.6, and all of the people I have spoken to had at least a 3.0 going in.

Hey I am interested in the Southern's Nursing School. Has anything changed with the GPA, I have a 3.3 right now.

I heard that SU has very low passing rate for the NCLEX and they might not be accepting students next semester! Be careful inwhich school you apply to. I also heard that they are very dirty at that school and they eat their young. Especially the Dean and the Chair of the school!

To verify NCLEX scores go to the Louisiana State Board of Nursing website. I can assure you Southern in not on probation

Notice the prior post were from 2007. As a graduate from 2006, I can assure you they were on probation back then. At the time the school seemed to take anyone with a 2.6 and that may account for the low pass rates. But they have taken drastic measures, some of which I do not agree with but which I admit work, in order to turn around the bar pass rates. You are correct in that SU is no longer on probation. But they were, even though they told students they weren't.

I agree totally with the above comment. The passing rates for SUSON have dramatically increased. As a graduate from 2009, I can honestly say that I was more than prepared for NCLEX.

Hi, I'm a current LPN student (Grad date: 11/5/10) in California moving back to BR in December 2010 and I was planning on applying to SUBR for Spring 2011 semester. My question is this, I 've been hearing that to get into their BSN program is very compeititive. would be transferring there with some pre-reqs already completed except both chemistries, pre-calc, A&P 1, and logic. I wouldn't be applying to the program until FALL 2010. Does it make sense to attend SU or to go to BRCCs ADN program and then transfer to SU to complete my BSN. Any advice on the issue would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently at BRCC and hoping to transfer to SU in the fall. SU just received the state's school of the year for nursing. Brcc has about 300 students wanting to apply for nursing but they only take 40 for the entire year. If you decide to go to BRCC and take pre-reqs please check them first because some including the Chemistry required for SU do not transfer as the class need for nursing school.
Hey is anyone on this site still attending SUBR?, I'd like some info from a student about the program.
