Ok, I am seeking opinions from others who have information regarding the pros and cons of these two types of diets. They seem so similar. Any advice or comments??

Hey Tweet, are you still low carbing it? I know what you mean, i have little boys who love fruit and to SEE them eating it almost was TOO much for me! lol Made me want to chew my own arm off, but once i got over that induction period, i was much better! lol

I'm trying hard to eat better, with one cheat day a week. I've lost three pounds since Christmas. See above post for my ideal diet.

I know what you mean. Those boys wouldn't have been safe around me at about day 13. LOL

How is South Beach's "induction" period, as compared to Atkins? Can you give me a brief rundown of it? I did Atkins last year and lasted exactly 10 days. Lost 4 lbs, but felt like crap and was craving carbs something FIERCE. I'm just wondering how SB compares in the first few weeks.

It was hard, but not quite as bad for me as Atkins induction. For me the difference between the two inductions periods (called Phase 1 in SBD) is that I was able to eat some things that were not permitted in Atkins induction. For example, kidney beans are allowed (I LOVE chili and found it to be very satisfying and soothing) and certain nuts, like pistachios and almonds are allowed from the get go. It is those high fiber carbs that saved me and afforded me enough pleasure in my eating plan that I could keep on going without that sick feeling all the time. There are some other things that are allowed on SBD that aren't in Atkins. It just worked out better for me.

If you would like to see the list of allowed foods for phase 1 on SBD, PM me.

(BTW, I lost 13 pounds in the first 2 weeks. I was a CARB JUNKIE before! It made a HUGE difference all the way around in my life! Of course the fat starts coming off much more slowly after Phase 1, but still comes off!)

I've been on sbd since last week, today is day 11, this is the easiest diet i've ever been on. I've tried slimfast,ww you name it other than atkins. I just couldnot comprehend eating eggs and bacon every morning. I've lost 8.6 lbs so far! The first couple of days i did have a headache, shakes but i knew if i continue this would work.

the cravings aren't as bad, occasionally when i walk in the produce section i just want good apple or orange, but only have to wait a few days more for that. My hubby is bigggg carb eater. he says he feels great since he started and never wants to go back to processed carbs.

I don't follow either of the diets strictly. Just have completely cut out white sugar, white bread, white rice, and white pasta. If I want rice, I have a brown rice with some wild rice mixed in. If I want bread, then it is a whole grain. Finding sugar free things over here is almost impossible but my box should be arriving shortly. The inches have just dropped off, it is quite amazing, and I still am eating. Just watching it. Love cheeses and eggs, so I am a very happy camper. Also love salad dressings made with bleu cheese and sour cream, and by cutting out the simple carbs I can eat what I want. A favorite snack in the late afternoon is a carrot cut up with a ranch dressing dip. I try to save for the foods that I really like. If I want chocolate, then it is one little piece once in a great while, no longer want it all of the time. And over here, forget about the Hershey's, it is Lindt everywhere. Coca-cola is much too sweet now. I have found what works for my body and would never change back to my old ways. I love walking by a mirror and stopping to look. I love my new look, and am not giving it up. I also get in a fair amount of walking to the office everyday, and have to walk up two to three flights of steps to get to the Skytrain.

Good luck to all of you and find what works for you.

I tried Atkins and couldn't do it I have borderline low bloodsugar probably had something to do with it.

I am now doing Body For Life and I love it I feel great and I have kept all the weight off that I lost a year ago.
