Soon to be new pre-nursing student.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello I'm new to this site and so glad I found it! :D I'm 24 and have two precious little girls, Im due to start my pre-reqs in Jan 2010 at Front Range Community College and am super excited to get things going! I know it is going to be hard and I think keeping my motivation up is going to be my biggest obstacle.

I have been kindof searching through topics and have come across the subject of the wait list for front range:imbar. This concerns me b/c I'm already 24 and getting a late start on things and now I'm kindof lost. My original plan was to start spring semester (jan10) and start the pre-reqs and just go on from there and continue working at my current place of employment. Now I was aware there would be a wait list but 3.5-4 years:eek:. I have been going back and forth on exactly what I want/ need to do. Would you all advise that I get my cna while waiting to be accepted into the program that way I can get some more experience and make more $ as a cna? ( I currently work in an assisted living facility so I have some experience, just not licensed and really do not make that much for what I have to do.) Any ideas, input, advise, would be greatly appriciated! Thanks!

Welcome! :)

I was 32 when I went back to school, so don't worry about your age. There are MANY people on this board who have gone back to school!

If you know you'll have the time, why not get your CNA? I'm considering doing that myself. I don't know that I'll have the time to work fulltime, but at least the license will be there. You'll have the license as well as the experience (I also used to work in an assisted living facility)... which could be priceless.

Good luck!!

Don't worry about your age!!! 24 is still very young and if you feel you need to start out being a CNA, then go for it!!! You can do anything you put your mind to!!

EMT would also be an option...

If you have 3.5-4 years to wait then you have lots of options.

Hi Nikkee303!

I'm in your same general area. I had looked at FRCC too, but the wait list was discouraging. I realized that if I took all my pre-reqs and applied to CU... I would be done with a BSN before being done with FRCC with my ASN.

I am taking all my classes through ccconline, which are awesome. You could take all your classes through them and still have FRCC as your home college. And you could easily fit them into your schedule while you were still working.

If you have any questions about ccconline or anything else, I'm here. BTW, I'm 40 and have been a home school Mom for years, but the kids are now older and its Mom's turn to go back to school. You have lots of time!! :)

nikki,

You are so young! I did not start pre-reg til I was 30 years old, It took 3 years to complete and get in a program and grad at 35 years old! Look at some programs where you can be a patient care tech or nurse intern. You are trained in a nurses role versus just being a cna. There is nothing wrong with cna's I was one for years before I went to school but the pct are taught phlebotomy, ekg tech roles, and cna abilities. I think it would give you more options for a part time/full time job while you go to school. Congrats and good luck!:yeah:

Thank you all so much for the responses! Im still not positive on what exactly I'm going to do but I know I'm going for it because its something I feel I'm meant to do! Thanks again you all are great!!:D
