Something that tick me off....

I have a friend that was able to get on part-time at a nsg home. They are trying to find her a third day to work so she can keep her benefits. Everyone at her facility works full-time and holds down at least one more part-time job. No wonder LVNs in CA can't find jobs. There are people out there that are hogging all the jobs. This friend said the same thing was true at her previous facility, all the nurses held more than one job. I understand that they have a right to hold down as many jobs as they can handle but I can't help but think this may be contributing to a shortage of jobs here in CA. Meanwhile, I'd be happy to find just one PT job that would cover my living expenses. Okay, I'm done venting.

I'm sorry, but it's not my rule, it's my place of employments rule. It does help because then they have more time to replace the sick call. .
I realize that, did not mean to ininsinuate it was your rules :D I agree with ya (and am never sick, luckily) but I do know where you're coming from....just pushin' a button or two, now and again ;)

No worries, don't mind my buttons being pushed every so often, I do it too LOL

As for the filipinos...I work with several who hold down 2 jobs....the reason she has 2 is 1. for her bills and family here..and 2. the other job she sends that income home to her family in the philipines to her parents . I also work with another nurse who works f/t at my facility and PT at another ltc facility and PT at a home health place....BUT...she does it because she likes high living. She drives a new car every year..sends her kids to private school...buys only name brand expensive clothing for herself and kids...she bought a freakin PURSE that costed 300.00! She goes on a killer vacation 1x yr. Her hubby also works 2 jobs. I have no idea how she manages that. I myself am looking for PT work b/c my FT job is cutting back our pay raises from 3 % to 1.5 and they have cut our hours back. I have no choice but seek PT employment in order to pay my bills and keep food on the table. My check this week was the lowest its been in 2 years and my mortgage is due next week....by the time I pay my mortgage, phone bill, and car insurance...Im left with virtually NOTHING until the first wk of September....and I have to dip into what little bit in savings to put gas in my car to even get to work! Not to mention the fact that by the time I get my next check...Ill have to buy more diapers for my son....thankfully I bought 2 extra packs 2 wks ago. On top of this....my husband is going to start truck driving school in Sept to get his CDL's so he can get a better paying job...for which we have to take out a loan to pay for b/c the college wont offer any financial aid for his classes. That adds another bill for us that we dont need right now. I have 2 interviews tomorrow for jobs that are 40 mins from my home for a PT job. I applied all over my local area and never got a single call back about my apps. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do in order to make ends meet. Plus...xmas is right around the corner too. Also in my area...we were just informed that our electric bills are all going to have rate increases...yay. Cant wait to pay them an extra 40 bucks a month.

Nobody would have two full time jobs anywhere if employers didn't buy into that behavior. I have worked for one employer who actually had printed in their employee handbook that employees were not to hold another job. That little rule certainly wasn't being followed at that place. I thought it came from an archaic mindset. Coming in late and/or calling off here and there with no adverse repercussions, is behavior that is condoned. Employers have other reasons for treating employees in this category well. You can't fault the employees for taking advantage of a system that exploits their willingness to be available at a better cost factor than others. Personally, in some of these places I saw plenty of reason to seek employment elsewhere. Employers who are not careful about some situations are usually those who look in the other direction for matters that involve patient care. Dangerous for the license. Not their license, your license. It all boils down to what you are willing to put up with in order to have a job.
