Iam currently in the LPN program at Penn Valley. i seriously applied last October and got in that Jan, so the wait was almost non existant! now, i want to go on and get my RN but i have heard that the RN program is a loooong wait. i dont want my prereqs to expire and have to start my hard work all over again... does anyone have any advise where to get my RN after i graduate in Dec.. either online or around the Kansas City Area??? any suggestions would be FANTASTIC! thanks

I just finished the evening/weekend LPN program at Penn Valley. I really loved it. I also heard that Penn Valley was backed up until 2008, and Park University in Parkville is just way too expensive. So at least 20 of my classmates are going to do the bridge thru Excelsior online. It is only going to cost me about $3000-3500 compared to 3x that at Park. And the sciences or prereq's never expire w/ them. Good luck w/ the program. Are you day or evening/weekend?

You could go to http://www.excelsior.edu I'm doing this after I finish the second semester (50%) this fall of my traditional nursing program. LPN's are also accepted into their program to get an ADN.

Iam in the day program so its mon-thurs from 7-4 and i work on the weekends. its a really great program. very tough though, we have lost quite a lot of people. can u tell me more information about Excelsior online?? im not quite sure how these online programs work?? where do u do your clinicals?? i live up north kinda by gladstone. some internet programs require u to be at the school some days.. is this one like that?? i got another response from a girl that said the same online program, so im definatly going to be looking into it.... thanks so much for the advise! have u taken your NCLEX yet??

Your best bet would be to go to their website and click on the nursing link. You will find the most info. there. I will tell you a few things though. I just can't 'talk' a lot because I have quite a bit of studying to do. There are 7 Nursing Concepts test which have to be taken all at a testing center in your town if there is one (you can go to http://www.test2.com) to see if there are any in your area. You take however little or much time you want to study for each one before taking the exam. There are, of course, general ed. requirements, but you more than likely have a lot of them if you're already in a nursing program, but you can complete those through Excelsior if you don't already have them. Once you complete all 7 exams, you will have a CPNE, which is where you go to one of the selected hospitals in the US (there are several states who offer it, I know Texas, maybe Wisconsin, and New York at least). You do some patient care scenarios in the hospital while they check you off to be sure you know your 'critical elements' and you also must peform lab skills (like bp reading, injections, tube feeding and so on. You will more than likely have learned all of these through your LPN program, but you will have to be sure you are doing it EC's way, not the way your previous school taught you (if there is a difference). If you pass the CPNE, then you graduate and are eligible to sit for NCLEX! I am not even close. I still have to finish my 2nd semester of my traditional nursing program first this fall. Then I will be able to enroll in EC. You can take the first two NC1 and NC2 exams with them before enrolling. I already took NC1 a couple weeks ago and got an A and I'm taking NC2 on the 31st. There are no other clinicals with EC, so while that is a downfall to their program, you could get a job as an LPN and I think that will prepare you well for when you get your RN. Really, go to their website. They have a lot of information. Don't have time to proof so there's probably bad spelling and lots of grammatical errors, but that's okay. I'm sure you'll get the point.

I HEARD that excelsior does not accept financial aid-that from a fellow LPN who asked them. Though I read in another document (not from the school) that they would help with costs. You can also look into Indiana State online LPN to BSN. I will probably go that route if it comes down to cost, otherwise excelsior. I think this is great bc you can go at your own pace and work full time-I don't know much about them though-I just graduated from LPN a month ago and have no idea how to even get started getting info on the online stuff. It is hard bc there is no campus for me to go visit and what not. I wish I knew more about it-so please, send any advice any of you can for the online schools!!!

I think that because you have to get the prereqs and co-reqs done you have time to wait for the PV slot to open? Like you could apply and while waiting work on Micro, A&P, Psyche, Eng, Hist, Speech, Cell Biology, etc. They admit 10 LPN students per semester--and that includes the evening program. You should be able to get in right after you finish all your other classes, IMHO. I think the wait is two semesters, and that is about the time you will need.

I have heard online programs are really work intensive. Plus, it is all about how YOU learn. I need to be in class.

Good luck! :)
