Solano Community College Fall 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi future nurses!

I just got my acceptance email today at Solano! I think we should all communicate through here for questions and what not. I tried to look at previous forums, but they did not have info about when clinicals and lectures are. I want to find out this info before accepting the position in case I get accepted from another program that is better for me. Especially since I live 2 hours away.

Thanks!

Oh, OK I did not receive that email but I had just emailed her 5 day before that so...hm.

The email was sent to students who were officially Accepted. I’m assuming they want to know who is still committed to see if there are any open spots for students on wait list.

I heard we will not know what our schedule looks like till the week before school starts.

I just hope we get an email with updates about how they are going to go about things for Fall 2020. We are all kind of at a hold waiting for a response, I'm sure we are all very anxious.?

Seriously!!! This whole thing sucks!!!

Not that it will answer any of your questions, but the situation of not knowing how the fall is going to be is common for most nursing programs. I'm in a similar situation with Johns Hopkins. Rumor has it they'll be doing online theory and in-person clinicals.

As for Ms. JewelShawJ, my suggestion is to commit to one of the programs you got accepted into for now. This assures you go somewhere. You can always withdraw before the term starts. Yes, it may cost a few dollars in regard to your commitment to that program. f you wait too long, you may lose those spots you were accepted.

Not exactly your situation, but I was waitlist at CSUEB and got an acceptance offer. I was also waiting on other programs, including Johns Hopkins' direct entry MSN. I committed to CSUEB to make sure I was going to someplace because although my intuition told me I would get into JHU, but only a fool relies on that. Once I got into JHU, I withdrew from CSUEB.

In the meantime, you may want to send an email to Janet Schwartz if there is updates she may be able to provide you. I would also ask what is the last date they would offer any admission off the waitlist.

Yes, I actually did just that. I have committed to another program just in case Solano doesn't take me in. Janet stated that they can call you in literally the day before class starts so I certainly hope that is not the case.

Does the nursing program start the same date as all the other classes at Solano? I can’t find that information on the nursing page.

Hello! I'm looking to apply to Solano soon and wanted to inquire if anyone would feel comfortable sharing their stats? Or even the admission criteria Solano uses?

Hi! I linked pdfs which could give you an idea about what classes Solano focuses on. Check their Registered Nursing page on the Solano website. I personally started my application the very first day it opened, that way I could get the required documents in line. Good luck!!

This sounds like you need to research the program more. The PDFs linked previously would be a good start. The main thing in regards to Solano's admission process is it is a random lottery from the pool qualified candidates; the fourth year is guaranteed an admission spot. Thus, you're not in a competition, per se, against the other candidates for a spot. If you qualify, you're in the lottery pool. Your stats compared to others does not matter.

Applying to Sac State, CSU East Bay, and so forth, there you are directly competing against the other applicants. And some programs, usually found for the direct entry masters or ABSN, they take a holistic approach, which could be mean the person with the best grades and entrance scores does not get a spot.

Hi! I know applying can be exhausting and daunting. Especially because so many schools have varying requirements and are usually very competitive due to impaction, as you probably know. So as a quick reference for Solano, it is lottery, you must have a C or above in each prerequisite and, "If a qualified applicant has applied 3 consecutive years and is not selected, he/she will automatically be offered a position the 4th year in the Fall nursing class, as long as he/she still meets the requirements." You can read more here: http://www.solano.edu/health/1920/GeneralInformationSheet_01_29_20.pdf

This is a great opportunity for people like myself who had "good" grades but not "excellent." I had a 3.52 overall and 3.31 in my prerequisites and did not make it into my program of choice two years in a row so I was very fortunate that Solano was lottery and pulled my name.

Apply to as many schools as possible.

Best of luck to you!

As for those who got accepted for this fall, is there already a facebook group or something we can join to communicate with each other? (Or I could start one if anyone is interested.) Might be a little easier than here on All Nurses.
