So what is this "new NCLEX format" I keep hearing about? I've heard about how the test is administered (asking progressively harder questions until you get one wrong, then asking an easier question until you get it right, and shutting off somewhere between 85-200something questions). Is the new format that you're referring to something different?
Our instructors are going to start testing us on the new NCLEX format starting next Tuesday. There will be our usual hard questions, fill in the blanks, diagrams, and multiple answer questions in which if you don't mark one of the correct choices the whole thing is wrong. I just hate the thought of it because we only have 50 questions on our exams, and they are going to try and cram all of this in 50 questions, and we only have an hour to take our exams. I am very curious to see how many of these types of questions one may get on the NCLEX.

Instead of being all multiple choice and only having one choice for an answer it now has multiple guess (more than one answer may be right and if you don't pick both of them, you get it wrong), fill in the blank, matching and so on.
Hope this helps!
Our tests are usually only 20-25 questions long and we are only allowed 1 minute per question, including the new formatted question. We will have 4 packets to study with only 20 questions and one will ALWAYS be the "new format" usually you can bank on getting that one wrong With the grading scale at 78% (like most schools) there is little room for error. You study, and study for 20 questions but the problem is you dont know which info they will test on so you have to study it all. Alright Im just venting. I truly love nursing school. Good luck to all

Our exams only have 35 to 40. Not the final though. It will have 50 - I think.:uhoh21:
I think having questions on tests in the NCLEX style is an EXELLENT IDEA. In high school I was in the International Baccalaureate program (similar to AP, but international) where we had to take exams at the end of the year. When we had chapter exams in my history class, he took the questions from past years' tests so we'd be familiar with them. I did better on that test than on those whose teachers didn't do that.

Yes, yes, at my school we are "enjoying" the new format questions. They started them last semester (my first), but at least they are good practice for the NCLEX. LOL my heart starts pounding when I read them b/c I think "EEK, I have to know the answer, there is no 1 out of 4 chance if I have no clue!". But overall, they haven't been too difficult. Looking forward to finals (4 more weeks)..not really finals, more the end of the semester and SUMMER!!!

I found out just today that mine will be.
Well, I guess we've got to get used to that format somehow....
School is officially over for this semester! Woohoo! (Except for three finals on Monday [19th])
