So we can't wear clogs...

Published

I was recently accepted into a nursing program and found out that we cannot wear clogs. I am so upset because I love my Danskos. They are well broken-in, and have proven to be great when having to mostly stand for 10+ hr shifts.

So with that said...any recommendations? I wouldn't mind a sneaker, though I don't know if I will really be flying around on clinicals. Also, I have heard some stories about fluids, etc. getting on sneakers, and being harder to clean. The Danskos are great since I could just wipe them off. :arghh: I am looking at the Timberland Renova Pro, would this be considered a clog too?

Ok, off topic I know, but seriously this post annoys me. Not the poster, but the policy. I can understand making a student buy a specific color, because that has happened to me in real life, uniforms are part of nursing, but as long as a shoe properly supports and protects the foot, why would a school rule out an entire line of shoes that are perfectly acceptable in every healthcare facility I have ever seen? Because they are called "clogs"? As long as the heels are covered I can't think of any evidence based reason not to allow Danskos. They are comfy, they protect your feet from blood and body fluids MORE than the sneakers with mesh, which your school seems to have no problems with, and they are easy to clean. It is stupid, and exemplifies the "because I said so" reasoning that makes nursing school harder than it has to be. School is expensive enough, why make students go out and buy new shoes? By the way I'm always open to learning so if anyone has any facts that would back up the no-clog-even-if-it-has-a-heel policy let me know.

Haha, I agree. But it seems like nursing school is the place where you are seriously discouraged from making waves. I just ordered these Danskos, they don't seem clog-like, but who knows. I figure if they don't pass school specs I can wear them while out of school. They are black and look sneakerish.

Reebok "princess" sneakers. Wide width. Leather so soft if molds right to your foot. LOVE them!!

Oh you are totally correct, I would recommend that you follow the rules. Just venting!!!

I know my moms hospital has issues with danskos because people roll their ankles easier than if they had traditional "flat" shoes.

Personally, danskos are the only shoe I can wear for hours at a time and not be in terrible pain by the end of they day.

I'm curious who has tried the dansko sneaker- did your size run the same as their clogs? Are they as comfy as the clogs?

Yeah, I know the ones I ordered are called a clog, but I'm hoping the laces throw them off! :sneaky:

I got them in today, so have only tried them around the house. They are a tiny bit lighter than the cabrio professional. So far they are very comfy, and the laces keep your foot from sliding around. I wear a 9 in normal shoes, but when i was fitted for cabrio professionals, they sized me at a 41, because of the room behind my heel/in front of the heel cup. I ordered these Veda in a 40, and they feel good. I like them so far, sturdy like other danskos. Hope i can get away with them at school/clinicals, if not another comfy pairs of shoes for running around!

Why? That is absolutely ridiculous. Can I tell you how much a hated nursing school because of stuff like this? I'd go as far as getting a note from your doctor stating that you have to wear them if you're on your feet for more than 2 hours. Doctor's orders, bishes! :roflmao:

What is the big deal about clogs? Nursing school has rules and so do hospitals when you find employment. You have to adapt or find another place. Some hospitals require certain colors so if you don't like the color will you get a doctors note? Lets be professional and not complain.

That's my point -- it's NOT a big deal! It's a pair of SHOES! Let them wear whatever shoes they want to. And if we're talking professional, clogs are much neater/more professional looking than a pair of tennis shoes IMO. OP's clogs are comfortable and she's going to be on her feet for long periods of time. It has nothing to do with "style" so no, I don't think you should get a doctor's not because you don't like your hospital's scrub color. That's ridiculous and it doesn't even make sense. Let's be professional and think before you post.

I am a professional and its not very professional to make such a comment. This shoe thing is ridiculous to even complain about. if the school doesn't permit a certain shoe get over it. There are plenty of professions that have requirements regarding clothing, colors, shoes etc so the choice becomes Either follow the rules or don't go to that school.
