So you wanna visit North Carolina .....

U.S.A. North Carolina

This thread is intended to provide information to nurses that may want to visit North Carolina and would like to know where to go. Please take a moment to share with us why your part of the State is the best.

For me, I think Asheville is a beautiful community. For one, the people make the community wonderful. There is a sence of honesty here and the people are down to earth and very real. The mountains offer a lot of outside recreational time. If you like being outside, there is hiking, camping, boating and a host of other great activities.

I would be wrong if I did not talk alittle about all the wonderful festivals that take place here in Western North Carolina. There is music, crafts, great food and lots of fun.

Let's hear what makes your part of North Carolina special for visitors.

Hi Runningnurse,

Thanks for your response. I just listed al of the places you told me about to my agent. She agreed they are nice places. So, we'll check them out.

If not from NC, where are you from? Adjusting well?

How is it over at Duke in general? You say they pay less than UNC.. what is their avg pay like for a new RN or one w/ some exp.? Any idea what UNC is paying? What are some of your fave DUKE benefits? Do you know what kind of incentives they are offerring?

I want a NC Nursing Spectrum or Advance for nurses really bad but I don't have an address to receive them. Would you happen to get those mags and have a spare one lying around? They are awesome.

I'm terribly excited and nervous all at the same time!

Nancy

Hello everyone. I just graduated from nursing school on May 13 and am coming down to visit Greenville, NC and Pitt County Memorial. Can anyone tell me anything? I am from the Northeast and everyone keeps telling me what a "Culture Shock" it will be and the recruiter said something about how Greenville didn't have a lot of gangs? Um I had never really pictured NC gang ridden and that much of a culture shock, but I may be very wrong. The furthest south I have been is Georgia and only spent a week.

It seems like from what I have read in these threads it is a great place and I can tell you all I am so sick of the 30 degree below winters give me a hurricane anyday at this point.

I am from Vermont and it is beautiful here and very liberal and pretty fast paced and that I think is mostly why people are thinking that it will be a shock for me. Everyone who has spent time down there say there isn't much of a hurry like up here and everyone says hello to each other. Sounds good to me! I adapt pretty well and the hospital is great, they will let me start in the OR. Very exciting I thought I was going to have to wait years.

Oh also the recruiter said that there really wasn't much going on. Greenville had 67,000 people about and my town has 38,000 and we always found things to do.

And really, a good BBQ sounds good to me.

Thanks to anyone out there that can give me some info. And good luck to you all.

Wilminton!! I was there as a traveler for 8 mos and I miss it. It is such a beautiful place and the people are so nice.
