So scared and nervous!!

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

I am not sure if I am posting this in the right spot, but I really need to get this off of my chest. I start my LPN program on the 29th of this month and I am scared ********. (Pardon my French) I have been working towards accomplishing my goal of becoming a RN, and I am finally on my way towards accomplishing my goal yet I am scared that I am going to fail. Isee so many people telling me that I am not going to be able to work part-time (3 days a week) as a CNA and do well in school that I am now doubting myself. Not to mention that I have broken up with my fiance' and I am now a single mother to 4 children (13 months, 6,8.10). I guess I am just needing some advice from people who have been there who can give me some advice, and maybe reassure me that I am not making a mistake. Thank you in advance.

Your kids is your first chunk of motivation.....the rest of it will come from the nay sayers and your breakup....one monkey dont stop the show....im turning 43 in 3 months and I have a full time job a needy husband, elderly parents, 2 kids (sophmore in colleger and sr in high school) but im doing it. I dont start my program until october, but I will finish and move on to my rn. Dont punk out on reaching your dreams. There are some people that have it waaaaaay worse than we do and they do very well....pinky promise me that you will step out of your scared **** bubble and own your dreams:-D. Good luck and best wishes to you♄

Thank you so much lala_ma2blpn!!! I really needed to read that! I pinky promise that I will not give up on my dream!! I think I am just nervous about starting something new. But after I posted ths, I did think about all the reasons that I have to keep moving forward, and I see all the great things that I will be able to do for my children and myself. You are right one monkey don't stop the show.....besides it will be GREAT to show him how much I was able to do without him!!

Yes!!!!! We both know the devil is a LIE!!! By the way, where r u going to school?

It is very hard & very stressful being a single parent with young children BUT it is possible even working part time. I started in January & right before I started class a friend who attempted the progran last yr had me convinced it was gonna be too hard & take up too much of my time from my family. Let me tell u I cried for days before I started. I let ppl get into my head & made me doubt myself. Don't do that. My husband & children are a great motivation. I've done well so far. The same person who tried to discourage me is now one of my biggest cheerleaders. It's a long road ahead but your children will be your cheerleaders. It's for all of you. When I can't do something with the rest of my family because I have to study, I just tell myself that this isn't forever & as soon as I finish our lives will be so much better. Keep your head up & definately keep praying. I'll be praying for you & your family as well.

It is doable!! I'm going into the lpn night and weekend program this fall with a 6 year old and 15 month old. That in itself will be difficult!!

My husbands aunt has 4 kids, single mom- one has cerebral palsy. He can only move his arms. He's deaf, and requires pretty much total care. She got her 2 year RN degree when her youngest (the one with cp) was 4. It was so tough! But she did it! You can do it too Hun, just keep your goals in sight!!

You can do all things through Christ which strengthen you!

Sweetheart you definately can do this!

You mentioned 4 great reason why you must and nothing else matters. People sometimes put everything and everyone in the same boat. Just cause it may not have worked for me doesn't mean it won't work for you, and visa versa. I've read about many people on this site in the same situtstion or worse and the made it happen for themselves and those depending on them.

Prioritize things now, get your ducks in a row, and dive in! No one ever said life would be easy, but it is do able. Always remember the reason for you making this sacrifes when the road looks dreary and continue to move forward.

Believe in yourself! I wish you the best, stay focused, you can do it. ;)

While I wasn't a single mom, but I did work full time during LPN school and a non-traditional student (I was 38 when I started). It wasn't easy but it can be done. You need to be sure you have a support system, come up with a plan to keep you organized and a way to balance your children's wants/needs, school and work.

I'm thankful for my husband. He stepped right up when I went back to school. He cooked, cleaned, did laundry, did the grocery shopping and did all the things that were normally on my plate. My children (ages at the time just turned 6 and just turned turned 15) also helped out greatly! Your older children can help out in small ways. Explain to the older ones what you are doing and why, how it will better all of your lives when you graduate and are able to secure a good paying job etc.

Keep your eye on the prize...don't give up. I won't lie and say its easy, but it's also not impossible :)

Don't go into this with a negative attitude...go in with the I can do this, WATCH ME!

Thank you everyone for responding! I am feeling a lot better about everything. i think that I just needed to put some things into perspective.

You are a beautiful woman and mother! That takes strength to be the best every day this is just another step forward you WILL succeed and you WILL continue to make your babies proud and be a great example for them. Dont let you ex or anyone hold you back because your strong for getting this far just to apply for school etc. Good Luck you will do great!

You can do this! I am 44 and have six children (15, 11, 10, 8, 7 and 4). I started back in dec and i homeschool the kids and work from home as a medical transcriptionist. I go to nursing school four nights a week for six hours. Yes, it is tough..not going to lie but it IS doable! You can do this!
