So...I failed the RN NCLEX....AGAIN!!!!

Published

This time was easier to accept than the first time but maybe that's because I'm just tired of being depressed about it! I don't know what to do at this point though because financially I don't really have the money to keep paying for this test but also I already took the Kaplan, did everything they told me to do, scored above 60% on every test I took (which is what they recommended I should be scoring) and I still failed the exam. I don't know what else to study and I just feel like I'm never going to get through this test. Why do they make it soooo hard??? Why isn't the two years of struggling, test taking, and stressing out in nursing school enough???

These tests don't prove how competent someone will be as a nurse, it just proves that some people are better test takers. I really think it's unfair. I feel nurses go through enough crap then to have to deal with this as well!!! But I don't know maybe I'm the only one who feels this way???

Well I'm up for some suggestions if anyone has an ideas on what I should study now??? I'm going to give it one last try, if I don't do it after the 3rd attempt then I'm over it, but hopefully 3 times will be a charm!:saint:

You can do it.. Try again.. God bless you.

I understand how frustrated you are with the test, but we are in it with you.:typing Remember that there are many people who have walked in your shoes and have gone on to become great nurses. Don't give up now, I know it is not easy; take some time to get over this one and maybe find a study buddy, or try some other method of study:banghead:. Maybe you over studied in a effort to pass? You've come too far to give up on yourself. :twocents:

yeah, it really doesnt prove 100% if you'll be a good nurse in the future. It cannot be realistic when we say that it proves how competent you are as a nurse 100%. NO. And my teacher would always say that "nclex is different from the real world." when youre answering the nclex, you think differently than what you see/do in real life. I know a lot of good student nurses, may it be written or clinical, who perform well in school and hospital, and they are the same persons who failed the nclex rn. while this other person who passed the nclex the first try, didnt study at all and almost fail nursing school. He admitted that he didnt evenn read most of the questions, and he laughed so hard when he found out that he passed because he cant believe it. Nclex is really unpredictable. Those who studied so hard and those who didnt study can both pass or fail!! We may think ts unfair but we should not stick our thinking to that. I think we should just do our role as test-takers. Study hard. If we fail, study again, Because passing nclex is the only way to being a RN. Well, dont be discouraged, i know its hard, but like what they say, "if you fall 7 times, stand up 8."

I appreciate everyone's response! Does anyone have any suggestions though on what I should study now??

Suggest you try the Saunders Comprehensive Review. This is the resource many people are successful with lately, according to their posts. You might try the Priorities book by Linda LaCharity also. Give yourself some time to get over the bad feelings, then set up a study schedule and study as if you had not tested before. Do as many questions as possible and study the rationales. Wishing you good luck.

Hi Flipz: WHen did you took ur 1st and 2nd test? Where did you took both of your test so I can avoid that test site?

So sorry you are going thru this. Here are my suggestions:

As already suggested, I used Saunders comprehensive. I did at least 100 questions per day

I practiced test taking skills which helped my to see what the question is really asking. I had Lippincott and Kaplan's flashcards. I took them everywhere! I was at the gym studying and working my tail off:coollook:. I just kept practicing questions everymoment I got. I read the rationals for both right and wrong answers. I believe in total I did about 4,000 practice questions in addition to the NCLEX questions I practiced while in nursing school.

1st, walk in with a strong knowledge base. 2nd, try some relaxation tips. I believe high anxiey will block you from seeing the correct answer. Do you have an exercise program? That may help. Right before the exam, I ran into the bathroom and did 20 jumping jacks to get the oxygen pumping good in my brain. Then I did a couple of boxing shuffles in the mirror chanting "you can do this, you are the champ!" Yeah, I am a little touched, but it worked!:wink2:

not washing socks (or shirt, or pants, or heaven forbid underwear!) won't keep a favorite sports team's winning streak going either but that doesn't keep folks from doing it! :lol2:
