Full moon? I am so emotionally exhausted from my past 2 12's.
Can I tell you how excited I was when my shift was over?
I was given a pt right after my shift was over in my double room, while I was finishing up something with my other pt and after the 2 shifts I had, it took every ounce of my being to smile and be nice to the pt complaining about the wait time for a pregnancy test... I mean. How dare I don't jump up and down and snag her urine sample like her life depended on it.. I think if I had to continue working I woulda went bonkers.
Demanding, over bearing, high maintenance, complaining, never happy pts and family members.... That's all I got these past 2 days and I am BEAT!
Vent over :)

I worked four shifts this past week, and it was non-stop brutal. Ugh. I have been coming home from work nearly catatonic lately. But my last patient of the last shift was one of those diabetics with a BS in the high 20s who had terrible veins and came in by EMS with no IV access and who was getting that slimy-sweaty-I'm-dropping-lower-and-gonna-seize action going, where you're actually thinking you might have to drill an IO somewhere (no EJs to speak of, already did glucagon IM). lol. I got a 22g in a squirrely little hand vein and gently pushed D50 for the win! I love that.

I hear you Pixie and Sassy. Recently, it was me versus the 6'5" built guy who was totally altered and trying to wipe the floor with me - ha. We were in a procedural area because the specialist decided to "get another scan" - grrr.....the first one hadn't gone all that great. The only person with me was the sweet and nice grandmotherly tech. Finally got security in there and a boatload of nurses and some doctors (more importantly, some orders!) and we got things calmed down.
Did I mention that this was at the end of my 12 hour shift? I stayed after to help the night nurse who was still getting new patients and my next stop was a young woman who had stubbed her toe (I wish I was kidding). She wasn't rude about the wait but she was crying in the room and asking me for food. I was too beaten down to argue - I gave her a pain pill, a turkey sandwich and a soda and called it a day :)

AMEN! I have been coming home feeling like I've work four 18hr shifts! It seems like we are seeing sicker and sicker patients right now and have a lot of patients that come POV and do need a bed right away which means hall beds everywhere and lots of ticked off people in the lobby watching these folks "go straight back."
Of course, that is a whole 'nother story there too!
