Environmental tobacco smoke and lung cancer: a reappraisal.
Trends in cigarette consumption cannot fully explain trends in British lung cancer rates
Purported misconceptions about the dangers of second hand smoke are not only erosive to work environments and social relationships (as is evidenced in this thread), but they also obfuscate a clear understanding of the etiology of lung cancer in non-smokers - thus affecting effective treatment and impeding curative efforts.
Lets take out the health and clean air element out of this equation-What about common courtesy for your fellow man? It's obviously an issue where the majority of people would appreciate not being exposed to smoke.. why be so self-centered and inconsiderate of others?
Because that is the way of the world it seems now a days. It's all about ME ME ME and my needs and my wants and people don't care who else it effects. It's pretty sad and disheartening.
Some of the comments in this thread show that. Someone being overweight will not directly effect my health. Someone smoking next to me will. Or as some posters with Asthma have pointed out, someone smelling like smoke will effect them.
People should be able to go to the hospital to heal and get better without being forced to deal with that. But as seen in this thread, it's all about pointing the finger and not accepting responsibility for ones own actions.
I'm not sure I said "a lot" but actually, yeah, there are a lot. There are obese people in every profession. If you think nursing is exempt then you should be thankful you work where you do and don't have to pick up the slack for others who can't or won't do their job.
Geez............... you are gonna be so unhappy when you have lung cancer/COPD and obese nurses are rushing in to turn you and give your breathing treatments......... Actually you'll probably appreciate them as their smoking coworkers will be out on a smoke break when you need them and will smell so offensive to you when they return (due to your disease process or chemotherapy side effects) that you may find you prefer the obese nurses.........
Dang...... I'm usually very sympathetic to smokers but you just made mad with that whole smelly, fat nurse thing.

That may or may not be true. Either way, I'll just be glad you're not my nurse
Get this I was taking my son to the doc office and had to walk me and my 2 year old through a cloud of smoke now I would think adults would know better then to smoke in front of the door of a peds clinic I mean come on whats wrong with people
I totally agree with you. People should not be standing outside of doorways where people have to walk through their smoke.
