What would you all do about a co-worker with an odor problem?
This gal LOOKS clean but she smells BAD. The beginning of the shift is fine, the middle of the shift and things get bad. I see her sneak off to the bathroom with BO Juice in hand but she still smells bad.
It isn't always body odor. Sometimes it is but it is something different. I feel weird about explaining exactly what it is, but it is usually a very strong, different odor. Please understand, this is not once every now and again, this is daily. It's a rare day that there is no odor.
To my knowledge we have never had a patient complaint, but I don't know why. She is a sweet nurse, very good at what she does, very skilled at her profession, but she stinks!
I really don't think it is a lack of showering, she comes to work and smells fine. Within a few hours it is bad.
Suggestions on how to tell her? I don't want to hurt her feelings but geez...
Maybe she recently had cryosurgery for cervical dysplasia. If the procedure was extensive enough, one would be able to smell the odor of rotting flesh.
I had a co-worker like that once, and the supervisor finally said something to her. Humiliated, she soon quit the job. I just found out she killed herself.

Maybe if some caring co-worker had taken the time to connect with her before it got to that point, she would have had a different outcome.
I really question the wisdom of your timing with this information.

After some blood work came back suspicious she had to stop taking the Flagyl because it is thought that it can cause cancer in lng term use. Soooooo, its either smell or cancer which would you pick.....

Seriously? A more appropriate treatment. If the abx's don't work, it isn't the abx's. It is the dx.
I seriously have to thank folks here. When I first posted my "issue" I was thinking that there was no way in he!! that I could post about lady partsl odor.
You folks made me realize how wrong I was. Now... after months and months I have the tools I need to help this young women.

I've seen her go to the bathroom with Mitchum. However when she leaves her purse laying open I have seen FDS spray.
I know she is trying however she is failing.

I can smell certain odors on certain people, sometimes. And I KNOW what it is.
However, what I have noticed is nowhere to the extent that Bipley describes.
I have noticed an odor from a co-worker, but it's like it is just from being at work all day, and not having the chance to "freshen" up. And what I have noticed, I believe, is also a lady partsl odor, but like I said, it's not to the extent that Bipley describes.
Also, I believe that age and weight comes into play with certain hygeine issues for women.
So, yes, I believe what Bipley is describing to be the truth.

LPN1974, I definantly agree that people have thier own smell. I'm a hairdresser, and people come in with thier own smell. Most people are fine, but plenty of people do come in with different smells. Older men come in the shop after being at work and have what I call an "old man smell". It is a combination os ciggarete smoke, a little sweat, and maybe a little oiliness from thier sebbacious glands in thier scalps. Other people come in with what smells like week old garlic. You may be suprised to know that after we shampoo childrens hair, they smell like old wet dogs. Paul Mitchell actually invented a lemony smelling shampoo just for kids because of this smell. These are normal middle and upper class children. It has nothing to do with cleanliness, it is just a fact. I'm also not disputing that women can get trichomonis or whatever was mentioned in an above post. I'm saying I really can't belive you couls smell a womans lady parts that smelled "clean earlier in the shift is now a fish basket. Trust me, as a hairdresser I have done many a free shampoo because of people and thier smells after work or just because they have over active sebbacious glands. That isn't the issue here. I'm talking only about this particular incident. I believe that some of our attraction to the opposite sex is due to pharamones. So trust me I agree with you about we all have our own smells, some are definanatly better than other. This sounds like an urban myth or something you would hear kids saying about one of thier classmates. I could be wrong but I HIGHYLY doubt it.:)
Hairdresser: I have had the misfortune of attending school and sitting next to a real stinker! She smelled like crotch! I cannot believe you find it so outrageous that we are able to smell these ungodly scents. Some people's noses are more sensitive. I am a nonsmoker and my sense of smell is ridiculously acute!! Not always a good thing!:rotfl:
