Smart pen - recorder?

Published

Does anyone know anything about the Pulse Smart Pen? I ran across a (good) review in Popular Science and checked the website www.livescribe.com Supposedly you can record digital audio as you take notes, and then it syncs the recording to your notes, so by tapping on your notes you can hear what was being recorded at the time you wrote the word. You can also upload the notes and audio to your computer and/or put it online. Looks a lot like my kids' "Fly Pen" which was more of a toy. It seem like a great idea, and would be so cool for NS, but I don't want to invest in a gadget that may be unreliable or is hard to use. Maybe if I get in somewhere soon I will treat myself.

Anyone know anything about it?

looks cool I might get one. I am looking for reviews on it..... do you know of any from people who actually own the product????? If it works how it says it does then it can be very useful to me.

Good Luck

No, I was hoping to hear from a real person. Popular Science gave it a good review, and I consider them reputable, but there is nothing like a honest review by an actual (and uncompensated) student to determine its worthiness. It seems marketed mostly to college students. I am not super techie, but it seemed cool and very useful ... IF it really works.

I read this thread and didn't see any reviews. Has anyone used this pen??

Hey, I have the smart pen and love it. I've been using it all summer. It has helped me in a couple of ways. I no longer feel pressured to write everything down, so I pay more attention in class. Before I would always miss one thing while trying to write down something else. It also helps me to reconcile my notes with the material. I have a tendency to write down single words or phrases thinking I will remember what it meant, and then I can never remember why I wrote it down. Now I can just click on the words and hear the lecture.

This summer I had Precalculus I and Macroeconomics during the first five week session and General Biology during the second five week session. I got As in precalc and biology and a B in Macro. The only reason I got a B in marco was because the instructor stopped teaching after midterm and then tested us on material that was never assigned to us. Before midterm, when the instructor was still lecturing I had an A in the class.

you might want to check the policies with your nursing school before you invest in this. my school wouldn't allow any recording devices because of patient confidentiality reasons (when they use examples in class). looks pretty cool though!

Hi everyone,

I seen this the Smart Pen on one of those morning shows and it looked awsome. Glad to hear that you all are giving it good reviews too!

How many hours can it record and was the initial set-up a headache or relatively easy?

Thanks,

M

does it look like a normal pen or can you tell that it is a recorder? I want to use it for class but because of one idiot at our school, we are not allowed to use a recorder in any class - even the non-nursing courses!

I have been thinking about getting one of these but didnt know if it was worth it but I am defintly going to look into it. I was worried about my bad handwriting and it uploading :) I would love to be able to tap and hear notes!

has anyone used it? And was it worth it?

I have one of these, and I love it! I wish it had been available when I was in nursing school.

Someone asked if it looked like a pen, or if you can tell it is a recorder. I have used it in it's recording capacity, and you'd have to look closely to see the "Rec" button. It looks like a chubby pen. It works as a pen too, so you can write without the record function too. It has come in *very* handy for me. It has a number of uses, and I am very glad that I got it.
