skirts required for community health clinical???

So I just bought the course packets for my two clinical classes in my final semester of my bachelor's program. Dress code for community health clinical is as follows: "tailored well fitting blouse, navy blue skirt, comfortable walking shoes. No sneakers, sandals, or clogs. Knee length skirt is recommended." We've been wearing royal blue scrub bottoms and a white polo top for the past 3 semesters. I don't own any of those clothes and I also hate wearing skirts. Men are allowed to wear plain slacks and a shirt. I know I'm probably over-reacting but has anyone else experienced this change in dress code for community health?

I would complain/talk to your prof about it. I had my first psych class yesterday, and she said that over the years so many students had complained about the extra cost of clothes that they did not own, that they changed the policy to our school uniform. You never know, you may be the one voice that helps make a similar decision.

For community and psych, we had to wear khakis and polos with our nursing school logo. I would ask your professor if you MUST wear a skirt. I don't mind wearing skirts but would not enjoy wearing knee length skirts to clinicals!

Same here. I feel the same what if someone comes from behind and flips your skirt. Or worse, lays on the floor to look up your skirt. (didn't happen at clinical but did happen when I worked at the public library.)

my school had a strict dress code that was business casual for community health, but many of the students dressed like "whores" according to my instructors so the new dress code was simplified to scrubs only. i liked this better especially since the community health nurses wear scrubs. "yeah!" to all of the nasty nursing students that came before me! :yeah:

I am sure you have seen some of the other students through out the years, are they wearing the skirts?? I am only assuming they would have no use for the skirts once school is out, our school had a program that the Srs would donate thier school scrubs to the oncoming freshman, there was always a box of used scrubs in the nursing office---saved me a bunch of cash!!

I'll ask around but it's just for that one clinical. I'm assuming that it's an archaic rule that I'll ask about when class starts, but thanks. :)

If I were you I'd make a trip to the thrift store and just comply with this dress policy. Yes, it sounds extremely old-fashioned. Just think of it as a little journey into days of yore...
