Skirts in the OR

Specialties Operating Room

Is this an absolute no-no. I wear skirts, and did so throughout all of my clinicals (my personal preference). I got to observe a C-section once and no one said anything to me. What do you think? By the way I live in Colorado, so I don't know if there are different rules about this in other parts of the country.

Thanks for replying.

What about the people with pants on. They might not have underwear on either.

Skirts don't have a fabric crotch, though.

I wonder if OR would be ok with me bringing my own skirt? I didn't think that would be ok, even if I was ok with wearing pants under the skirt. By the way I have bought panty hose with the crotch.

Sorry for all of the questions. I don't think I could call HR about this because I would probably not be offered a job with this many odd questions.

Our maternity unit has their own scrubs, and they also have skirts. These are allowed in the OR, with pants.

I doubt that brining your own skirt to the OR would be accepted.

And where i work, pantyhose with a crotch and a skirt are still unacceptable. Pants have to be under that skirt.

Are you an Orthodox Jew by any chance or just prefer skirts?

If this a religious thing they may ofer you more leniency with options as long as policy is followed (sometimes creatively)

We have one female surgeon that insists on scrub skirts. The hospital provides these for her. No one else wears them and she doesn't have the legs for them. UGH!

I wear skirts for religious reasons. I am wondering should I bring this up in a interview if I get one? I am not sure how well this would go across, plus having to provide different scrubs for me.

BTW, I won't have any problems with the legs part, I have nice calfs (I'm partial). ;) As for the surgeon, did she not wear anything under the skirt, was her skin exposed?

perineal fallout...i'm still getting over that one.

hoo-hoo spreads, like radiation, contaminating everything in it's path. mothers hide your children. opening next week...attack of the hoo-hoo

You will have to find a facility that will provide these for you. You are not permitted to bring your own from home for the OR. This is per JCAHO and AORN standards.

Her bare legs are horrifying enough. I don't even want to think about under the skirt!

You had me chuckling at my computer on that one. :rotfl:

Nearly every OR I've worked in had one or more women who, for religious reasons, wore skirts. Scrub dresses are still available and were purchased for their use by the facility.

Perineal fallout? and checking for underwear? :roll

What about all the chest hair exposed by those virile men? :uhoh3:

Before you reply, Marie, I noted that it's your facilities policy. Just seems odd to me.

It's their policy, not mine, so i'm not going to argue about, i just follow it. Nowhere did i say that underwear was being checked for.
