Skills Survey, final interview step

Published

Specializes in critical care, Med-Surg.

Okay, I have been offered a job apparently, pending third and final step. A skills survey.

Has anyone taken one of these? If anybody can give me any insight as to what they are like or what they will be asking, I would be very appreciative.

Any way to prepare? This is for a med-surg position.

I am kind of exhausted from all this interviewing, LOL. It just seems to go on and on. Interview, four hours of shadowing, peer review, and now a skills

survey.

I am thinking it might be mostly a drug test. And since I haven't practiced in a while, that is prob. my biggest weakness. So if anyone has any advice, I am all ears.

Thanks! I love allnurses!

Congratulations! Did you have your skills interview yet?

Thanks! I spoke w someone in HR, and the Skills Survey was something I had ALREADY completed. It was an online assessment of your judgement, basically questions asking what would you do in this particular situation, how effective would you rate this particular action, etc. The Nurse Manager did not realize I'd already completed it.

So, now...I am scheduled for orientation. My next area of focus: brushing up on pharmacology. (I haven't practiced in many moons). So I am looking into the NLN Basic Proficiency in Medication Administration test. i.e., being prepared to take such a test. Was told to bring calculator to Nursg Orientation, so I know what is coming.

Trying to cover all the bases! Tho I haven;t worked in ages, I have a solid resume and 6 yrs of med-surg plus 6 more in critical care. But I still feel like a newbie all over again, LOL.

If any readers can provide any insight as to typical drug/pharmacology types of questions, I'm all ears. I know, of course, to brush up on basics like Digoxin.

While I am re-starting in med-surg, I would like to tx back into critical care at some point. And I am kicking myself b/c I no longer have my tried and true formulas for calculating drips!

Nuttin' like starting over...

First of all, you are NOT starting over. I wish I had your experience! Secondly, COGRATULATIONS! You deserve it after everything you've been through. All I remember from my med test (as a new grad) is Fentanyl=rigid ("wooden") chest. It's a lot easier to remember now that I've seen it in real life! Good luck and keep us posted. :)
