Start by buying an NCLEX study guide that has a companion CD and use it to practice test taking.

Don't go to the NCLEX thread it will only scare you, it scared me! it's full of "I failed" comments from members who later found out they didn't fail. Quite literally everyone feels they didn't do well coming out of the testing center.

My recommendation is for you to go to Border's or Barnes and Nobles in your area and look at some of the nclex review books. I have taken the LPN boards and the RN boards (June 26, 2008) and passed with the minimum for both. Both times I used Saunder's (the 4th ed is the newest for RN since the nclex was revamped in April 07)for content, and The Kaplan Book for test strategies (how to take the test). I highly recommend both of these books because in my opinion they are a good reflection of what the questions will look like on the nclex. NCLEX questions are nothing like you will see in school unless your instructors test you that way. In school you are given a body of knowledge and tested on it, and on the nclex you have to apply that knowledge (ex. you have a pt that has had a liver biopsy what is a sign of a complication? On the nclex you have to be able to recognize the s/s of hemorrhage b/c hemorrhage will not be an answer choice but the s/s will). While in school, I practiced nclex questions out of Saunder's but only in relation to what I was studying at that time and being tested on.

There is a lot of information under the NCLEX forum in regards to what review books others felt worked for them. You can review this information without going into the support groups started for people in the process of taking boards (which is where you will read how they feel and if they passed or not). Many people come out of the test feeling as if they have failed the exam so yes there are some threads/posts like that but the NCLEX forum is also there for support groups and threads on books that work, hints and tips.

Take kaplan, and do the online tests. There are usually a lot of priority questions, where it gives you different scenerios/pt hx and asks which patient should you see/assess first.

BTW, no matter how good you do on the test, right after you take it you feel like you failed, every single person I've talked too, myself included felt this way.

thanks!! Can I have the authors of that book..? I am a third year student

and already has a duty in a hospital. But every time I am there it seems like and I really feel it that there is a lot of things I must learn what I have is not enough, but I have the basic skills in the hospital like giving meds and etc. Despites of that I have a feeling that if I wont get improved like my C.I i couldn't pass any licensure exam whether locally or nclex. Do you think at this level what are the things I should know already?:chuckle

The author for Saunder's 4th ed. is Linda Anne Silvestri, and the author for The Kaplan book is Irwin and Burckhardt. You can just ask for Saunder's and Kaplan and they will most likely know what it is. Good luck.
