SJVC Visalia LVN to RN Program

Published

Hi all,

Just thought I would start a thread to see who applied for the upcoming 2018 cohort. I also wanted to check in and see how your experience has been so far through the application process. As for me, so far, I think I'm doing really well! I scored a level 2 on the RN fundamentals exam, had a great interview, and now I'm locked in with my finances. Just waiting for the phone call from SJVC to tell me if I've been accepted or not.

I believe there are only 24 seats for the bridge program and over 100 applicants. It's more competitive than I thought, especially because it's a private college.

We're supposed to hear by October 15th. Good luck to everyone!! :)

Thanks for the info. I wish they'd tell us. I understand about the points and working the way down the list.

In my email it said how I was an alternate, then went on to say if someone drops before the start date or does not show up on the first day I'd be eligible to take their spot.

I wasn't sure if all of the alternates received the same information because if so it basically is saying we will all get in when 'someone' drops or doesn't show up the first day.

It's not specifying ' if there are drops or if there is no shows you'd be eligible. '

I don't like how it says if someone drops before the start date or does not show up the first day your eligible to take their spot.

I'm working on my plan B.... I still have hope to get accepted hopefully. having a plan B is best I feel.

My email was worded the same so theirs hints in the email unfortunately

Hey. I know how it feels to be selected as an alternate. I applied for the bridge 2018 and was an alternate. Last year they told us our number, I was number 3 on the first list. When the cohort started they only selected the top two alternates. A week into the program I got an email from Mitzi saying to have my finances ready, that there's a potential fallout, but I never heard anything else after that. I was ready even if they called me 3 weeks into the program but only the top two alternates were needed. I also applied for the 2019 bridge and unfortunately again I got an email that I'm an alternate but this time around they didn't specify what number like last year. It's so unfortunate. I didn't know this program was so competitive. It really sucks because I've been in this position before and I've wasted another year hoping to get into this program... I'm always hopeful but having a plan B is essential. I've missed out on starting other programs because SJVC is one of the closest bridge programs near where I live. Every year is different but if it ends up being like last year I would only feel confident being the number 1 alternate, maybe number 2.

Hi. Awww, that's hard to hear I feel so bad for you. And yes having hopeful thoughts can be a let down when second round being an alternate again.

There are 3 possibly 4 other bridge programs to apply to for mybplan B. The only thing is I felt there could be a better advantage applying at sjvc because of the interview and essay. The other programs don't even look at your face or know your personality. Lol

So those are just as competitive I feel too. But I'm not sure how many they select or how many are applying either.

One of the programs only selects 6 lvn for there bridge program.

Again, we are all in a field of need and the competition appears to be building each year.

Exactly which is why why you would think that the few schools that offer the bridge would offer it more often ! Everyone I know that has went to Utah has gotten in the program first try.. that's not a possibility for me to travel out of state bc I don't just trust anyone with my kids, but if theirs anyone who has the means and ability to apply out their I strong encourage it !

I feel my gpa of the pre reqs is what got me with this. I have 1 C and I lost the points in that category. Once she showed me the tally of my points I knew when I walked out that day I wasn't in the running.

I'd need to retake a course and replace another in order to make the 3.0.

I'm a little frustrated with it all. I've looked up other ones and I'm still in the lower part of points. It's hard because I don't want to be stuck as an lvn the rest of my life. If anything I will apply for a full rn program if I need to next fall.

Yea I only got 3 points for my overall GPA ... well just don't give up! It's hard it's so competitive but eventually we'll get in guys ! It's not over yet!

For GPA of 3.0 how much points do you receive?

2.5-2.99=3 points

3.0-3.9911 points

4.0= 15 point

Thank you. I haven't received a call yet. I feel like they called the student that got in and alternate. I'm getting ready to apply for other programs. Bummer.. :(

Hi there! Congratulations to everyone that was accepted! I applied for 2019 cohort too. Do you know if points are racked up from science GPA or overall?

The gpa was pulled from the pre reqs they require.

Anatomy, phys, micro, math, English, soc or anthropology, humanities, psych, chem, communication.

Other programs will do overall gpa and then also sciences in a separate category.

I'm afraid of the teas. I've never taken it and now I'm starting to study that. Basically with the teas the higher that score is will replace any missed points from the gpa basically.

Not like the rn funds test sjvc have us. As long as you got 62% or 72% or 82% you still only got the 10 points for that category.
