Hi everyone, I plan on applying for the SJRCC Palatka program by next May for the Fall 2009. I've been wanting to do this for SOOO long! I am so extremely thrilled I can focus more on my education now. I have a question if anyone can help, I would really appreciate any insight on applying as well.
What hospitals are the clinicals held for SJRCC Palatka and can you pick which hospital you'd like to go to? (I live 40 minutes away already so I don't want to travel much further, just wondering)
Oh and one more, what is the class schedule once in nursing school at SJRCC in Palatka? Will I be able to work at least part-time (20 hours/week) still? I transcribe medical reports from home. Any thoughts?
Thanks to everyone! :nuke:

I don't know the program specifics...but are you closer to their Orange Park campus? You know they offer it there now...I applied there as my back up for FCCJ :heartbeat
oh...and the only other word of advice is to be sure that you schedule and pay for your NET/NAT (don't remember which one is for which school) by the deadline...they will not let you register late...I know I had a friend miss the deadline bye 1 day so she couldn't apply
Sorry I didn't have more answers...Good Luck!!
Hi, thanks for the info. Well, It's actually faster to get to Palatka from where I'm at - no traffic down 100 hardly, so probably a total of 45 minutes driving. To Orange Park down College it'd be about a 55 min drive, and 1 hour 10 minutes to OPMC.
Can I apply to both programs or can you only apply to 1 SJRCC nursing program at a time?
my biggest worry thus far is if Palatka's clinicals are held at Flagler hospital then I'll have a very long drive on those days, I'd be hating life then LOL.
Where are OP-SJRCC's clinicals held, just at OPMC? or elsewhere too?
Thanks so much everyone!
Bummer...I thought if you lived closer to orange park it would be easier...I think that SJRCC orange park campus holds their clinicals at OPMC only...
and I think you can only apply to one campus at a time
I know what you're saying about driving though...I have an hour and a half drive to and from school every day to look forward to to get to FCCJ...but I really wanted the exposure to the most hospitals that I could have. Plus 16 months of driving like a crazy person to go where you really want is worth it! I will just have to record my study notes onto a cd at home lol
when you get accepted be sure to call worksource...they are paying for my tuition...all you have to do is keep an attendance sheet...meet with your case manager and keep a 3.0 averge for your nursing courses! *sweet*
oh wow, I didn't realize there was such a place...Here I was fretting about how to get it paid for and work at the same time lol. I'm a worry wart seriously though haha:uhoh3:

Is that the right place to call?
I'm so excited )
Yes, I'd like to go to FCCJ North Campus but I've heard they have a long waiting list and deny a lot of applicants since there are so many...is that true or hearsay? lol
I'm with you, whatever I have to do to get this career going, I'm gonna do it! lol
My future goal is to become either an arnp or cnm and work in ob/gyn. So exciting that this is actually an option for me now.
Oh, any ideas on how to improve my critical thinking and what to study for the NET/NAT?
Thanks again!!

Yes, that is the website. It is so wonderful; they pay for your tuition, books, and boards.
You have no idea how many times I have heard about this supposed waiting list and how they deny people with 4.0's and stuff like that. FCCJ is perhaps the easiest one I think to get into. Not saying that it is not hard, they just accept way more people than SJRCC and UNF and have a higher passing rate with their boards. You have a better idea of if you get in or not based upon your points the second you apply. I mean there is a cut off of points they let in and usually you know just by the people you talk to what the cut off is. Best part is that you can be in microbiology when you apply at FCCJ as opposed to SJRCC where you have to wait. SJRCC also only lets in about 35 per campus per semester and like what was said above, you can only take their entrance test certain times during the year. You can take FCCJ's any time (but you do have to make an appointment). To me, FCCJ is a way better option even though SJRCC is about 25 minutes away from me and the hospital is about 30 as opposed to an hour + to go to North Campus and their hospitals but to me it is so worth it. =)
I'm thinking even thought it'd be about 1 hour 15 minute drive for me to FCCJ Northside that I should apply as a 2nd option. I like that I could go at night and weekends there. I think that is the only nursing school around here with that option (please someone correct that if I'm wrong )
We used to live in Riverside, now in Gainesville - we could always move back that way I suppose though I despise jax drivers/traffic so badly lol
Well, I love that you gals have given me so much good information to think about, I'm just going to keep taking these courses and keep applying where I meet the requirements and hope and pray like Paul I can get in!

i've seen SJRCC students at memorial hospital in jax... yeah i know that's a way's to go, lol, but just fyi looks like they don't just stick to OPMC!
Hi Butterfly, I haven't taken the NET yet. I still have to take Human Nutrition and Intro to Sociology (hopefully I can swing both of these over the summer), then Human Growth & Development and Microbiology/Lab in the Fall, all the while I need to start studying for the NET. What should I be studying to take that test? I've seen some practice exams online, but I've also heard that we need a good critical thinking score. Is that tested by the NET or some other exam?
So, if I pass all those with A's/B's and make a good score on the NET then I'd like to apply for the Fall 09 at SJRCC Palatka program, but I'll keep taking the other requirements I guess for SFCC and FCCJ.
Do you know how many people SFCC lets in per round? It seems like there are a TON of applicants there! I'm shying away from it because I am not sure I could get in as quickly (I'm not in my early 20's anymore and time is creeping on me fast :chuckle ) But, I wonder if we'd get a better education at SFCC?
So many things to consider! lol
I hope you get in really soon too!
Also, thanks for the info on Memorial Hospital Jax. )
You are right now SFCC. Its hard to get in because there is so so many applicants. They take 140 i think but it goes up each year. I was wait listed this year but of course no one was dumb enogh to drop out.:chuckle:banghead: I know i wouldn't if i got the chance to get in. So i will be applying there as well. I gotta take the critical thinking test and they I can apply there, i took it two years ago so its expired. I hope we both get in somewhere. Maybe if we get in at SJ's we can take turns driving. lol.
Hey, absolutely! Gas is way too high now, I can't imagine what it'll be like a year from now lol. I was just telling my hubby that we should buy one of those smart cars, they get quite a bit of miles to the gallon of gas or an electric car haha.
I'll try SFCC too, eventually we will get in somewhere!
