SJDC ADN FALL 2016

Published

Hi everyone!

I wanted to start a thread for the people who are applying to San Joaquin Delta College's nursing program for FALL 2016 cohort. I know the application period is still a month away but I'm just so excited. I still need to take my TEAS. Maybe we can all get to know each other and compare scores?

Good luck to all of us !

Woo-hoo! I'm super excited !! I'm applying for another college's nursing school today !! It's my first time applying to a nursing school so I'm pretty excited !

That is exciting! Good luck to you.

So I've been really thinking about if I got into the program at delta and it makes me really excited but sooo nervous. I have 2 kids ages 5 & 20 months. I have no idea what I'm going to do regarding childcare :( I know it's really soon to think about but I just can't help it. Do you guys have children? How do you plan on doing it? Sorry if this is too personal a question!

I don't think it's too soon to be planning things out, I actually believe it's necessary to do so. I am a wife and a mother and it is necessary to consider your family when choosing which program is a right fit and if you can make it all work. I was accepted into the Sac States nursing program for this spring (my dream program) and I was so excited. The more I looked into the schedule, which is accelerated, and factored in commute time, I realized that I would have no time for my family and studying. I struggled trying to make the decision to decline my spot but ultimately it was just not a good fit overall for my family.

Both Stan state and Delta have a schedule that is more 'do-able'. You should be able to find childcare and keep decent hours. Will you have help from family members or friends? Will your 5 year old be 1st grade next year and does their school offer an after school program? Things will be hectic while in he nursing program but it is only temporary!

I have two kids. If I get in for Fall, I will need childcare for my youngest until he starts kindergarten in 2017. Plus after school care for my oldest. I have a daycare I use now a couple days a week. My husband and I are aware that we may need to take out loans to pay for full time care. It's not ideal, but it must be done for me to complete my schooling. We do not have any friends or family close enough to help but we are prepared to do whatever it takes. Hubby may need to stay home with sick kids if I have clinical and can't miss. I am super nervous about it too. I suggest looking at childcare centers and trying them out before you start. You want to make sure it is a good fit before nursing school starts.

I just wanted to add that I am a firm believer that if you want something bad enough you can find a way to get it! That is what I tell myself everytime I start to stress a lot about how I will get it all done.

With Delta being an inexpensive program, taking out loans for outside expenses really won't be that big of a deal. It will be totally worth it and once you start working, you will be able to pay them off pretty quickly. We will all figure out a way to make it work and all of us moms can stick together and give one another support as we go on this journey together!

Thank you for your words. That is so sad that you had to give up your dream school, but I totally understand where you are coming from. Family comes first. Yes that is what I worry about the most, finding someone or somewhere trustworthy to leave my babies. Also how much it'll cost because my husband will be the only one working. I do have family that will help out for "study time", but all of them work so they can't babysit my kids while Im in school :( My 5 year old will be starting kindergarden this year in August. (I say he's 5 because he will be 5 Feb. 3rd which is really close but he's actually 4 right now lol) I don't think his school offers an after school program :( I have to figure something out! But I really want this more than anything so I will make it work :)

Thanks for your response! :) It seems like we are all in the same boat! lol I honestly think I might have to take out a loan too, to help with child care expenses. Yes, same here for my hubby. Well we can do this! thanks for the advice!

And I also agree, if you want something so bad you will do it. Thats exactly how I feel about nursing school.

Hopefully we all get into the program! It is great to know other fellow moms to help and support each other! Only 2 more weeks until the application period :)

Yes! Two more weeks. I cannot wait!

Did you take the TEAS?

Did you take the TEAS?

Not yet :nailbiting: Im so nervous for it. My test date is the 28th. I feel like I scheduled it pretty late lol Wish I would have done it sooner because I'm really cutting it close! But I guess the more time to study the better right! Im currently studying the TEAS V manual. Hopefully it helps me get a really high score.
