I am new to the site. Just want to say that I am glad I found it. Been reading some of the threads re: NCLEX and I must say that most are comforting, but there are a handfull of comments that are NOT! (ie, re: math questions)
I took my RN nclex on Tuesday and I am still waiting for my results. As the minutes slowly drag by I am going over and over in my head what exactly happened that Tuesday morning......I stopped at 75 quests....My first quest. was math....I had several SATA, maybe 7 math calc's (guess thats a bad thing), priority, infection control, what would you expect to see if your pt was responding approp. to a specific tx, what pt are you going to see first, blah blah blah.....my focus is on the math and the quantity of math quests i received. The calc's were not your basic d/h=q! the involved several steps! I would certainly hope that the computer would push me beyond 75 if i was "hanging in there". I could not have bombed it that bad, could I have? Well, just wanted to vent.....my husband tries to listen and understand (:redbeathe him dearly), but he just doesn't have a clue.
thanks for listening....

Hey NursebettyKay!
Hang in there chic! I know the waiting period is miserable! But hang in there! Stay occupied and don't think about the test anymore......Its over and done, no going back you know! Why torture yourself with comments in your head.....your just going to make yourself feel worst.
I know for a fact that my friends have taken they're test and waited 3 days for the results.
Where in California are you froM? Im from Cypress, California (orange county)
I take my test This Tuesday the 22nd!
Tough math questions huh???? Dam! hate math. have no problem with the D/H you know. Im ok with IV calculations or Heparin. also Cardiac conversions....mcg/min are ok to as long as you do them, over and over.
But there are these math questions that you don't really go over in the nursing program like: md orders 2500ml of ivf over 24 hours. pt has ngt that had a out from 3-11 of 250ml and need to replace it with...blah blah blah......those i hate because they are tricky.
But dont torture yourself.....i hope to god you make it! I really do! Just keep having that FAITH in you!
Please let us know!
Take care,

i am from palm springs. I wish you the best of luck! Keep in mind that this "nclex" day is the day we have been training for for so long and nothing is gonna get in our way of being caring, compassionate and amazing nurses!!
get plenty of sleep on sunday night before your test day, cuz heaven knows the night before is a bit rough, take your vitamins, eat plenty of salmone (if you like it, of course), eat breakfast, go pee before you enter the testing room, put on your thinking cap and kick some nclex ass!!

Ahh! Pretty Palmsprings! It's so nice out there. My hubby and I stayed there for a 3 day weekend getaway at a nice resort there. It's soooo nice to get away from the real city of L.A./orange county and esp freeways!
Love the area! But dam woman....sure gets hot out there!
Yeah, i work 12 hr shifts on thrusday and friday and plan to study a little bit more on Sunday and just do question after question........but the day before .....for me on Monday.........do you recommend opening my books? Look at my flashcards i made, do another few questions???
Or just forget about doing all that stuff and enjoy the day?
Im scarred that i may forget.....lol! before the test!
what you you think? or what did you do?

I also took mine on the 15th in CA and am waiting patiently for my results (very difficult to do). Mine also shut off at 75, and at the time, I felt I wanted more questions to "redeem" myself b/c I wasn't sure. I had 3 math calculations. I know what you mean b/c I also had ones that required many steps. I never studied math b/c I can usually figure it out. I had like mcg/kg/min and units of pitocin ordered to figure out ml/hr. I was freakin out in the beginning but now I feel better reading what I've read on this forum that about 85% of first timers pass! Good luck to you!!
one of my classmates and I coincidentally scheduled our exam on the same day, same test center and same time so we traveled together. We got a hotel room for the night before, we ate a healthy dinner (and a giant hot fudge sunday, I highly recommend!), we did do about 100 questions that night, but I don't neccessarily think it helped. We had been studying together almost everyday for weeks~that was our preparation~I guess the only thing I would recommend is do what makes you feel better! Doing those questions the night before made us feel better~ I do however recommend brushing up on some lab values, if need be and some math because I believe that everything I knew about conversions, quickly left the building and it took a good 15 min for me to get back into the swing of it all.
ya know, everyone has their story.....and that is just it, it is "their" stroy! advice is comforting, that is why i am here, but no one can truely prepare you~just walk in there KNOWING you are smart, you are pretty (corny i know, but this is how my friends and i talk to each other), you are capable, you can and will do this because you have worked so hard and you are a great nurse! an amazing person and believe in "you", because we all do!
good luck and kick ass!!

Hey again Nursebettykay!
Well, its 9:15pm and I'm still with my :typing laptop and still answering questions. I must of done about 250 or 300 questions today!
Your so funny! Are you really going to wake up that early in the morning!
Girl, you are too funny!
I have no doubt in my mind.........you passed, i know you did!!!!!
But please let me know ok!!! Can't wait to hear the great news in the morning.....oh? wait....im working tommorrow 12 hours shifts......i wont be able to check till after i get out of 7p. But I'll definetly go online after I get off work and get all cozy at home!
Crossing my finger for ya chic!!!! :wink2:
yeah, my friend and i are both setting our alarms and the first one to get results has to call the other one NO MATTER WHAT TIME IT IS! the sad thing is that we have orientation tomorrow at 0700.
250-300 is alot of questions in one day! i found it hard to stay focused when doing that many in one day, i always wanted to check my email or myspace. so i would take my laptop to the coffee shop almost everyday at 1400 to get away from my daily distractors. of course i also pulled the allnighters too, just trying to cram one more qbank test in before my time is up. you'll do great! push hard and concentrate! watch the test taking stradegy and the how to approch the exam video from kaplan this weekend and then slow down by sunday and do little qbanks to practice using the rules of the nclex. use a piece of paper to state the topics and eliminate answers. this is how i approached the "beast"!
will be sure to keep ya posted! good nite
