My whole family moved back in with my parents so we'd have support while I was in school- it was the best move we ever made. (my kids are 1.5 and 4) Things to consider- long classes days (our daycare has a 9 hour max), odd clinical hours (we did days 6:15-3:30 and evenings 3-11) and of course extra studying times (I spend about 20 hours a week over and above classes to maintain my 4.0).I'm not a single mom but my hubby was up north for 9 weeks out of this last semester. Without a doubt, I couldn't have done it without MY parents Good luck!

I'm not going to say it's easy juggling motherhood with school but it's possible if you know how to budget your time. My best advice would be to have a consistent routine for studying and homework-I study after my dd goes to bed, from 7:30 till around 11:30, every night. I also pay attention during lecture and listen to my lecture tapes during my commute. It takes a lot of discipline but having a strict routine makes it less stressful-a lot of my classmates who don't have kids end up being more stressed because they go out and party on the weekends and end up having to cram the night before the test! Plus, having a little one really helps when you are studying OB and growth and development

I'm starting the RN program in the fall, but have been in school for a year doing pre-reqs. I can say that in my experience, school is do-able if you commit yourself to the work and make time to study and make that time efficient.I have a 4.0 so far, and made Dean's List and joined the Honor's Society. Just stay committed and go for it!

Heavenly4505 106 Posts Apr 22, 2010 I am in a 16-month LPN program, and I am a mother of two children--5 and 4 years old. I am not single; I am married, but my husband is also a full-time student and is gone a lot. I am currently maintaining a 4.0 GPA, and on top of school and family life, I work 24 hours a week as a CNA (two 12-hour shifts on the weekends). I can't say it's easy, nor can I say it's fun. But it's definitely doable. I generally stay up late at night studying or get up early in the mornings to study while the kids are still asleep. I really don't have any family support other than my husband, either. Both of my parents have passed away and my in-laws live nearly two hours away. There are several ladies in my class who have three or four children. You just have to learn how to manage your time. If the rest of us can do it, you can, too! Good luck.

I would suggest having supports in place for childcare because you may be asked to do a night shift at a practicum, or you may need study time. You can do it!!!!!

No regrets...............you can achieve anything as long as you apply yourself. It's always how bad do you want it. During my program; I filed for a divorce; my grandmother passed away-I did it with FIVE kids, pregnant, and my three cats! Plus was still working- Now all I'm working toward is deciding do I want an Audi truck or a Cayenne? And graduated withing the top THREE of my class.

I have been taking classes full time towards pre-requisites for an ADN so I am kind of used to schooling but not on such a rigid basis so the lack of flexibility is a worry. I'm lucky to have a great support system of family and friends. Good luck.

Trust me save yourself alot of trouble and get used to it now. We've been through the ringer this year, ended up in a domestic violence shelter, homeless with 2 kids no job and full time school. I have survived and so have my boys 8 and 3. Thankful we had a lot of help from our social worker and through the different programs on campus. It is going to be very hard especially with a child that young but you can do it!! DO NOT let anyone steer you away from your dreams. It was very hard on my boys because they knew mommy was busy and mommy had homework and many times begged me to stop and play but I had to keep on going. Now here I am tomorrow we have our school graduation ceremony and they get to see a little bit of what this means to them. Ok, so my 3 yo won't care but hopefully my 8yo will get it. I know in July when I get pinned they will both be there with me and maybe 20 years from now say thanks. Go for it! You can do this! BTW get a good babysitter and then get two more as backups. Trust me on this one, I almost failed first semester due to clinical days. Nobody wants to get up and babysit at 5am.
