Single mother and nursing student

Published

I know this topic has been brought up many times before but I am a single Mom of a 6 and 3 1/2 year old. I own a house and will be starting the ADN nursin program in Spring. As I am getting closer I am getting nervous! lol. I have a good 10k tucked away and planning on borrowing what I can in student loans from my CC. I am hoping to work minimally. I have family close by and their Dad is so so. I am just looking for others in the same boat who have done it. Can you get by working minimally without private loans? Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Every situation is different.

Yes, it can be done

I was a single mom of 2 while in nursing school

I worked about 24hrs a month. But was on food stamps and my youngest has autism so we qualified for SSI benefits.

Establishe a great support system, if dad is only so so have someone you can call if dad flakes on you.

Nursing schools and clinicals sites don't care if the babysitter didn't show or the car broke down. Have a back up for your back up

Thanks for the quick response! I know I will qualify for food stamps, heat assistance and healthcare in addition to childcare subsidy I already recieve. I have all my family close so childcare shouldnt be an issue. I guess its the finances that worries me the most. I am trying to save as much as I can to live on.

I ended up using credit cards. If you are worried, Instead of credit take out as much grants and student loans. The interest rate on student loans is less than credit cards.

That would have been the only thing I would have done differently
