Simmons FNP May 2015 Cohort

Published

I didn't see a thread on this already. I'm working on my application right now for the May cohort. I'm thinking I might start in the Fall, but was told that start time received the highest number of applications and that I could delay my start if I wanted to apply to an earlier date. Anyone else doing this? I'm feeling a time crunch, as I'm moving to South Korea in April and wanted to have it all done. Simmons is one of the few online FNP programs that will allow me to do my clinicals on any military base world-wide, which is a huge help. I'm really excited, but have no idea what my chances are for acceptance. I have less than 2 years of experience, so I'm pretty weak in that area. How are applications coming for everyone else?

DeepBlueFive,

Yes, it was actually both Simmons & Georgetown actually. I was accepted to Saint Joseph for now unless I get into Simmons. Which I highly doubt though

I applied to Simmons for the May 2015 cohort.

My application is out for review by faculty as of last Monday; my admissions counselor told me to expect to hear within two to four weeks, which means I should hopefully know one way or another by mid-April.

Since receiving notification that my application was out for review, I have not received any more updates (other than the standard boilerplate stuff about being prepared with a deposit in order to hold my seat).

Phyllis' mom,

I'm in the same boat.. app was out for review by faculty as of last Monday.. still waiting to hear! I did receive an email from financial aid that they've received my FAFSA info, but the email specifically stated that just b/c they've received the info, it doesn't mean anything re: admissions status.

Oscar,

Did your rejection letter/email/call from Simmons specifically state that you were being rejected due to a 3.65 GPA? In my opinion, a 3.65 GPA is fairly strong!

Deepbluefive,

Well let me correct myself a bit. I had a 3.53 overall GPA, & 3.65 Nursing. I had some issues with my high school back in 2004 when I dropped a dual enrollment class and they forgot to remove me from the university roster. I ended up with 4 F's and by the time I went back to school in 2010, they told me it was too late to do anything. They told me my science GPA was too low (2.8 with 1 of the F's mentioned, 3.7 without). I included all that in the optional statement but I feel as if it didn't matter. They just said there were stronger candidates.

On on the plus side, 1.5 weeks after applying, I got my acceptance call from Simmons haha

i have to take a science refresher in May and the start the program in September. All I need to do is pass and I'm guaranteed into the September cohort. Anyone else gone through this?

So it looks like you're the first person on this thread to be accepted at Simmons - congratulations!

oscar.a,

Understandable.. but all that's dirt under the rug now that you've gotten your acceptance call!! Congratulations! I'm hoping to receive an update any day now. I did hear about people completing the science refresher. Most stated that it was helpful to them for the upcoming pathophys class. I also heard that it was 8 weeks to complete and that you need an 83 or better to continue on. It's also not covered by the financial aid portion of the program and you can set up a payment plan over 3-4 months to pay for it I believe.

Thanks guys, yes September official start.

Deepbluefive,

thanks a lot and thanks as well for the info.

Hopefully you get some good news soon. Whatever happens don't give up. I got a no from Simmons and Georgetown for the January start & well now I'm in.

Thanks oscar.a! I'm starting with the FNP courses in May. I too noticed that several people are taking the bridge course. I joined the FB page yesterday. Still waiting on IT to send me my 2SN login information.
