Simmons FNP May 2015 Cohort

Published

I didn't see a thread on this already. I'm working on my application right now for the May cohort. I'm thinking I might start in the Fall, but was told that start time received the highest number of applications and that I could delay my start if I wanted to apply to an earlier date. Anyone else doing this? I'm feeling a time crunch, as I'm moving to South Korea in April and wanted to have it all done. Simmons is one of the few online FNP programs that will allow me to do my clinicals on any military base world-wide, which is a huge help. I'm really excited, but have no idea what my chances are for acceptance. I have less than 2 years of experience, so I'm pretty weak in that area. How are applications coming for everyone else?

Updating kinda late, but I did get accepted! I'm so excited. I'll be starting the FNP in May, going PT. They recommended that so I could work, but I can't work over here very easily in Korea, so I'm just going to enjoy having some extra time to work on school. Since you can't work and do clinicals at the same place, that makes it impossible for me, as there's only one clinic on base. I had so much trouble getting all the pieces of my application together. I thought I'd never get it done (took 3 times of a school sending 1 transcript for it to arrive). I saw someone mentioned the Facebook page. Is anyone yet a member on the Simmons May 2015 cohort for PT? I asked to be a member, but haven't been approved yet and wondered how long it was taking for approval. Thanks! Paige

Hi Tasha,

I've been kinda following your posts. Thank you for all the information. I just found out I've been accepted for the Sept. 2015 cohort. How is it going? I will be attending part-time and prior, I will need to take the Bio bridge course. Do you have any thoughts on this? I guess I'm a little nervous, however it does make sense for me to take it. I have been out of school for 10 years. Anyway, congratulations on your progression! I'm looking forward to getting there.

Thank you!!

Deepbluefive,

Well let me correct myself a bit. I had a 3.53 overall GPA, & 3.65 Nursing. I had some issues with my high school back in 2004 when I dropped a dual enrollment class and they forgot to remove me from the university roster. I ended up with 4 F's and by the time I went back to school in 2010, they told me it was too late to do anything. They told me my science GPA was too low (2.8 with 1 of the F's mentioned, 3.7 without). I included all that in the optional statement but I feel as if it didn't matter. They just said there were stronger candidates.

On on the plus side, 1.5 weeks after applying, I got my acceptance call from Simmons haha

i have to take a science refresher in May and the start the program in September. All I need to do is pass and I'm guaranteed into the September cohort. Anyone else gone through this?

:D First off congrats! second off, did you just do a good job explaining the mishap in your application? Or do you think other points of your application helped you stand out?

I'm just so intrigued cause for most of the year I've been in a stupor, kind of lamenting earlier struggles with school. short story. . . Majored in biology throughout but started at Seton Hall in new jersey, transferred cause of family obligations (sick parents) to NEU, was doing fine as SH with a 3.1 GPA involved in ec's and active on campus but getting to NEU I failed out due to compounding factors; dealing with sexuality, coming out to my mom and attempted with my dad, bad break up/ bad boyfriend, leading to bad study habits. Literally cried for a week then registered at a community college and attended for two years. Now I'm at Emmanuel College with a 3.0 (not great but it's getting there) Was once premed and wanted to be a physician but realized through some internships and research experiences that advocacy was my heart and soul. I still love health promotion and learning about diseases so I feel FNP is a better fit than the md path.

I'm taking a neurology course in the fall at Simmons, to get a feel of the campus and hopefully prove to them I can handle rigorous science coursework. I know this is the regular FNP thread and not the direct entry but just wanted to see what advice you have, Oscar.a or anyone.

Hello Everyone!!! I just received my acceptance call into the sept 2015 FNP program!!! So excited! I do have to take a biology and statistics refresher course since being out of school 7 years but hey I'm in!!! Anyone else taking the bio bridge course this sept with me?

For those starting this sept we should start a Facebook group!!

Congratulations, jlb1985. That's fantastic that you've been accepted. And yes, I would suggest starting a facebook page. The ones I'm a member of offer valuable advice (both for finding out about which professors to take and info throughout the courses). I'd suggest joining two established groups for Simmons: Admitted Nursing@Simmons Students and Professor Reviews Nursing@Simmons. Good luck!

Hi all! I see quite a few accepted for the September '15 cohort--I just received notice today that my application is before faculty for review. I hope to be joining you all in September!

Hi icurn3366

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great. The program is really well done. It's difficult, but everyone ahead of me says Simmons does a fantastic job of preparing us for clinicals and boards. I'm really excited to progress through the program and see how the rest of it is designed.

What term are you in? How long did it take you to receive your admittance? I've found some older threads on here where people have had a decisions in just a couple of days...I hope that is the case with my application as well!

Hi All! I just submitted my application for the September cohort, and it is under faculty review. Anyone else waiting on a decision? The anxiety is building lol

I would advise anyone considering their online FNP program to really do their research of other schools. I wish I did more research before I started because I may have gone somewhere else. It has good professors for the most part, but there are other very important aspects of a program that this school will not provide. Please, please do your full research before settling on their online program...please.
